GAUTAM LAHIRI PANEL WINS ON ALL SEATS IN PCI ELECTIONS

The results of the Press Club of India polls were declared on 24 September in which the panel of Gautam Lahiri literally swept winning on all posts, hands down. Veteran journalist who had also been the president of PCI twice earlier Gautam Lahiri has won this time as well, securing 861 votes defeating his nearest rival Prashant Tondon by a margin of 594 votes. NDTV’s Manoranjan Bharti was elected as Vice President securing the largest number of 971 votes defeating his nearest rival by a margin of 768 votes. Neeraj Thakur of the same panel bagged 812 votes defeating his opponent by a difference of 529 votes. For the post of Joint Secretary, Mehtab Alam of “The Wire”, defeated his nearest rival by a margin of 377 votes securing 704 votes. Mohit Dubey of News Nation became the PCI treasurer defeating his rival by a margin of 483 votes bagging 692 votes. The Lahiri panel won on all the 16 managing committee seats as well defeating their opponents. However, this time, for 16 management committee posts there were total 22 contestants. According to the Press Club of India press release those who won for 16 managing committee posts of PCI are ANISH SINGH , ASHRAF ALI , ASHISH GUPTA , JATIN GANDHI, MANVENDRA VASHISHT, MAYANK SINGH, MEGHNA DHULIA, ABDUL BARI MASAUD, N. R. MOHANTY, PRAGYA SINGH, RAVINDRA KUMAR, SHANKAR KUMAR ANAND, SUNIL NEGI, SURABHI KANGA, TELAPROLU SRINIWAS RAO, VINEETA THAKUR. Among the managing committee members JATIN GANDHI secured the maximum number of 858 votes followed by MEGHNA DHULIA bagging 838 votes. PRAGYA SINGH was the third securing 821 votes while SUNIL NEGI bagged 814 votes. The total votes polled were 1155. The results of PCI elections were announced by the chief election commissioner MMC Sharma in the presence of his team and the entire winning and defeated candidates with the outgoing secretary general Vinay Kumar thanked everyone for their cooperation and support during his previous tenure and this election.
