GAUTAM LAHIRI LED ENTIRE PANEL WINS THE PRESS CLUB OF INDIA ELECTIONS

In Managing Committee Aditi Rajput of NDTV secured the maximum votes ( 985 ) followed by Megha Dhulia of Times of India securing 905 votes, Pragya Singh 906 and Sunil Negi of UKnationnews bagging 901 votes.

The election results of the prestigious Press Club of India with nearly five thousand eligible voters all active journalists have been announced today by the Election Commissioner of PCI M.M. C Sharma. About 1400 members of Press Club of India have cast their votes on 9 November in the election held in Press club premises. The entire panel led by the incumbent president and veteran journalist Gautam Lahiri won this election with a big margin defeating the opponents. Gautam Lahiri who was the presidential candidate secured 1045 votes while Atul Mishra and Arun Sharma managed to get merely 230 and 100 votes respectively. For the first time in the election history of Press club a woman journalist of The Wire Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty bagged 930 votes whereas her opponents Rahul Chopra and Prahlad Singh Rajput could satisfy themselves securing just 230 and 100 votes respectively. For the post of Secretary General Neeraj Thakur defeated Lakshmi Devi Aree from Press Trust of India with a big margin securing 913 votes. On the posts of Joint secretary and treasurer Afzal Imam and Mohit Dubey stood victorious respectively while the same panel bagged all the 16 seats for the membership of managing committee of Press Club of India. Those who stood victorious as members of managing committee defeating their opponents with a good margin are Surabhi Kanga, Pragya Singh, Nalini Ranjan Mohanty, Sunil Negi, Asis Gupta, Shankar Anand, Rajvinder Kumar, Abhishek Kumar Singh, Anindya Chatopadhyay, Amitabh Roy Chowdhury, Mohammed Azad, Ashraf Bastavi, PR Sunil, and Pabba Suresh Babu. In all there were 28 candidates in the fray for the post of 16 members of the Managing Committee of the Press Club of India. The polling of the PCI members took place on November 9 with 1357 ordinary member of PCI casting their votes. Press club of India’s present successful panel is also privileged to have five women journalists in the PCI’s new team for the very first time.
