BY VIVEK SHUKLA

St. Stephen’s College is moving towards Haryana after making a huge contribution in the field of education and nation building since 1881 in Delhi. It was established by the Cambridge Mission, also known as the Delhi Brotherhood Society (DBS). After 141 years of establishing the college where several great luminarieshave studied, is turning into school too.

Well, the Delhi Brotherhood Society is opening a school in Sonepat in Haryana from the next academic session i.e. 2023-24. The School would be known as St. Stephan’s School.

According to Brother George Solomon, who is associated with DBS for the last over three decades, “the construction work for the St. Stephan’s School is going on in a very rapid pace. We hope that the school building would be ready before the start of next academic session. It would be a state of the art building with wonderful library and Science laboratories. Of course, our school would have a big play ground.” He is hopeful that as their school has emotional ties with great Sir Chotu Ram, people in Haryana would send their kids to

the St. Stephan’s School. It will be a Co-educational school from 1st class to 12 th class. Brother George Soloman hopes that the St. Stephan’s School would set new bench mark in imparting quality education to kids of Haryana.

It may be recalled that the members of Delhi Brotherhood Society (DBS) were at the forefront during freedom movement of India. Deenbandhu C.F. Andrews was among the founders of DBS. He was a close friend of Mahatma Gandhi. Thanks to him, Gandhi ji visited Delhi for the first time in Delhi in 1915 and stayed in St. Stephen’s college campus. From slum community development, to fighting illegal bonded labour, to working with the children of sex workers, to providing aid for a leprosy colony, and beyond, DBS runs a host of projects in the service of society.
