
The national capital yesterday midnight and early morning experienced a heavy thunderstorm including massive rain resulting in felling of several trees, waterlogging at several places including vehicles becoming victims of falling trees including four casualties of human loss reported from various parts of Delhi. The thunderstorm was so powerful that good number of vehicle have been damaged and houses full of dust and dirt. Several flights at national and international airports in Delhi were also affected with probably more than hundred flights having been delayed at the Delhi airport.


According to the news pouring in , though the Indian meteorological department had already warned Delhites of this thunderstorm but it forecast that this in the yellow catagory which was turned into Red alert as it was upgraded. Over hundred flights were delayed due to this thunderstorm at Delhi airport including IMD revealing that the maximum speed of the thunderstorm was of 80 kilometres per hour recorded at Safdarjung Airport in the morning at 5.10 AM. The Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta called for an inspection to asses for herself about the possible damage, inconvenience to the people due to waterlogging and providing relief measures. Responding to the waterlogging at various locations in Delhi especially at Minto Road bridge which was completely waterlogged the PWD minister Parvesh Verma came on X and said : Today, due to unseasonal record rainfall, water stagnated in some quantity at many places in Delhi. From 5:30 am onwards, I went to many places and took stock of the situation. On going to Minto Bridge, I saw that all four pumps were working and the operator was also alert. A pipe had burst and I have asked to repair it. In view of the monsoon, the cleaning of drains is being done continuously by PWD, MCD, DJB, NDMC, IFC” wrote Parvesh Verma, minister in X.
The Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta visited several waterlogging affected areas of Delhi including Majnu Ka Tila with officials and instructed them to clear the waterlogging at the earliest .
She wrote on X : Today I inspected the situation of waterlogging in various areas of Delhi including Majnu ka Tila due to rain. I am personally present on the ground with the concerned officials to resolve this problem. Clear instructions were given to all officers to identify places where waterlogging is occurring across Delhi and ensure solution. There are reports of four deaths during this thunderstorm with one grievous injury at Kharadi village near Dwarka when a tree fell on them at a tubewell.
