Four dead and 15 missing in a landslide at Gaurikund, Rudraprayag. Om Shanti

The ecological disasters in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and other himalayan states are constantly taking huge toll particularly during the monsoon season. Landslides, flash floods, cloud bursts and subsidence have become a usual affair unfortunately with lives of thousands of residents in danger. On Thursday another tragic mishappening has occurred in Gauri Kund where four people are reported to have been killed on Kedarnath main road in Rudraprayag district due to massive landslide. This harsh tragedy has claimed four lives till yet while fifteen others are missing for which the SDRF, NDRF, local police is Swiftly on rescue operation. The rescue operation continued on Friday on full swing as 15 people are still missing. This tragic mishappening occurred when due to excessive land a part of mountain rock fell down in the shape of a massive landslide. While excessive monsoon rains in Uttarakhand n other himalayan states have posed immense danger to lives n properties , this year’s ecological disaster seems to be much more dangerous with tragedies occurred in several parts of Uttarakhand’s Garhwal and Kumaon region with NDRF, SDRF, police, health authorities and administration always on tenterhooks.

According to the district disaster management officer Nandan Singh Rajwar the tragedy that occurred on Kedarnath Badrinath main road near Datpulia resulted in 19 missing earlier out of which four dead bodies have been recovered.

Out of the present missing persons according to police three persons are the locals whereas the rest of them are Nepalese citizen and three from other states.

The police has released the list of thirteen missing persons which include the names of 18 years old Priyanshu Chamola resident of Tilwada, 28 year old Ranbir Singh, rest all Bohras in the age of 7, 8,14,26, 28 probably from the same family. Rest two are from Saharanpur, UP and Bharatpur Rajasthan. It may be recalled that Rudraprayag district in Uttarakhand and elsewhere is the highly vulnerable region to landslides as it has highest landslide density in India. The study bases on ISRO satellite maps, revealed that this district has the highest exposure to total population, working population , literacy and number of houses to landslides reveals a TOI report. Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand Vice President Dhirendra Pratap has in a statement expressed his condolences on this tragedy.
