Though entire Uttarakhand is in the grip of man-eater ( leopards) attacks with several kids, women and even men becoming their dreaded victims every now and then with the forest and wild life department not able to do much except either trying to cage the man-eaters or allegedly let them prowl freely for human flesh. Just two days ago a four year old kid and woman were yesterday attacked by different man-eaters in Garhwal in different locations grievously injuring them, they being lucky enough to save themselves by struggling bravely. Prior to these dreaded attacks several woman, children were dragged by man-eaters from their house compounds in Rikhnikhal block and in Tehri Garhwal and literally killed with their mutilated dead bodies found in the nearby jungles several metres away from the house. There is panic all around and in Garhwal as well as the Kumaon divisions the people are living in unpredictable threat to their lives including that of their women and children. Now, the Maneater leopards have entered the townships and residential areas and in FRI Dehradun where foreign and domestic tourists regularly come have been stopped to visit here for at least five days in view of the man-eaters wandering in the FRI precincts freely posing direct threat to human lives. According to a news report in Forest Research Institute , Dehradun built during British era by the Britishers spread in a sprawling lush green lawns foreign and domestic tourists visit here in large numbers but in view of the frequent wandering by the man-eaters in this area , the FRI authorities had no option but to apply brakes on the visit of the foreign and domestic tourists . In addition to the free movement of leopards in the FRI precincts the authorities have also found the eaten dead bodies of other wild animals in the forest roads and pathways confirming the carnivorous roaming and harming the animals too. In view of the prevailing risk to the human lives the FRI authorities have stopped allowing tourists visiting the FRI and has also restricted the locals on regular morning and evening excursions to avoid risk to their lives. The FRI has written to the forest department to arrange to set cages at various locations of the FRI vicinity ensuring capturing in the maneater leopards after tranquilizing them at the earliest. The FRI has issued orders to restrict the movement of tourists including the locals from.2 nd October to 6 th October.
