Five out of six young people die in a tragic accident on Dehradun Mussourie road this morning. RIP

Media has been writing time and again that Uttarakhand is poised for tragic accidents on bad roads some full of pot holes, due to blind turns, speeding vehicles, non control of speed, over working hours of drivers of buses n trucks, and several other factors like untrained drivers coming on the roads including negligent driving, even under inebriation at times with several drivers of commercial vehicles overloading them for petty profits etc.

If one tries to check the statistics of accidents in Uttarakhand and subsequent casualties, (though the statistics of casualties due to accidents not available fully) the figure definitely would be much higher as compared to accidents in the plain areas.

There is definitely a warning signal now and the transport department, those responsible for construction of roads, traffic regulators and authorities concerned need to tighten their belts to ensure that these tragic accidents are controlled by finding the genuine technical reasons behind them and re energising the departments in whose shoulders the responsibility to counter this dreaded menace actually lies.

Not a day is left when the newspapers of Uttarakhand are bereft of news regarding accidents and dreaded accidental deaths.

Just today on the Mussourie to Dehradun road a massive accident occured this morning when five of the six young people died on the spot after the vehicle they were travelling in ( UK O7 BD 8600) number met with a dreaded accident turning upside down due to uncontrollable speed. The sixth injured though serious is under treatment. They were all probably of a college. Among the dead are two girls. The tragedy occured at Dehradun Mussourie road at Jhadi Pani Choona Khaala Marg. This is the early morning tragedy probably at six a.m.

During these summers Uttarakhand is full of traffic movements and people from different parts of the country thronging here on hill stations like Mussourie, Dhanaulti and other destinations, with tourists on the rush.

While during the rainy season due to excessive rains the accidents increase due to boulders falling on the running vehicles or roads being blocked by falling mountains or boulders and roads also becoming narrow and slippery leading to speedy vehicles losing control and falling in deep gorges with heavy casualties.

However, during summer seasons the rush of vehicular traffic locally as well as of tourists on roads , with everyone in hurry to reach their destinations leads to tragic accidents, leading to good number of casualties.

Anoop Nautiyal the founder of Dehradun based SDC ( NGO) and renowned social activist n writer has expressed his serious concern and deepest condolences on this tragic accident writing in the social media platform X :

Extremely sad for crestfallen families & friends of the 6 young people of whom 5 are no more. They passed away today morning on their way fm #Mussoorie to #Dehradun. Our roads, regulations & people driving skills all need major overhaul. This is tragic indeed! Om Shanti
