She was honoured by the then chief minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit at Talkatora stadium in a glittering function of Delhi Commission of Women when Barkha Singh, MLA from R. K. Puram was its chairperson.
Continuing her challenging career as an Auto Driver for her dignified survival as a hard working woman, Sunita Choudhary, never gave up but continued her struggle to seek loan to buy a new Auto with meagre interest setting a precedence for other women in distress to stand on their own feet.
Her biggest hurdle was that the banks charged 12% annual interest on the loan which was beyond her capacity to pay.
However, since 2019 she ran from pillar to post to urge the central and state governments to lessen the loan for women for buying an auto for their survival. But all in vain.
Since 2019 she continued writing letters to the government for loan on less interest compared to the 12% loan accorded by banks and also met them personally.
Finally she succeeded and the government agreed to give fully financed loan to women on mere 6% to the SC, ST n backward category men and women to buy an auto. The total cost of the fully financed auto is Rs 5 Lakhs.
Her efforts after relentless struggle finally bore fruits. The Delhi government finally agreed to give women n men under Swa Rojgar Yojna ( Self Employment Scheme) loan for a fully financed auto with mere 6% annual interest.
On 13 February Sunita Choudhary will be delivered an auto in a function at Okhla for which she has thanked the Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejrival, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot and Director of Sincere Marketing Service Avinash Dhingra.
This is indeed a successful story of a relentless struggling woman who not only fought a long legal battle against dowry and constant thrashing by her husband and in laws finally sending them to jail but also started her career as a first woman auto driver in entire North India including Delhi setting an outstanding example of women empowerment on her own. Kudos.
We salute the struggling 1st woman auto driver.
