Firebrand leader, author, supreme court advocate, former MLA n MP Udhampur n founder patron of J& K Panthers Party Prof. Bhim Singh passes away ! RIP
A dashing and dynamic leader of Jammu and Kashmir, a relentless fighter, veteran Supreme court advocate and founder of Jammu and Kashmir Panthers Party Professor Bhim Singh is no more. He breathed his last today morning at the age of 80 admitted in a Jammu hospital brought dead. Professor Bhim Singh died after a prolonged illness. Born in 1942 in Ram Nagar, remote village of Jammu n Kashmir Professor Bhim Singh was the vice president of Indian Youth Congress before 1980 and a good orator, leader with organisational skills having worked with Priya Dass Munshi, Ghulam, Nabi Azad etc in Youth Congress.
He was the general secretary of AICC from 1980 to 82. A non compromising politician on principles n ethics and a popular leader of Jammu and Kashmir Professor Bhim Singh thereafter formed J. K. Panthers party with his wife Jaimala in 1982 who had later on shifted to England along with his son. She was with professor Bhim Singh in India during his last departure to eternal home and earlier looking after him while he was ill. Professor Bhim Singh was member of legislative Council and MLA from J and K and also MP from Udhampur having won by a Supreme Court ruling in 1988.
An author, politician, sr advocate of supreme court, executive member of its Bar Association and founder patron of J n K Panthers Party Professor Bhim Singh never compromised with any party on principles n for power but singularly as the chief of J n K Panthers Party remained active in strife torn Kashmir having two three MLAs.
His central office was 4 Vithal Bhai House from where he also started an English magazine during nineties and published an English paper Voice of Millions since eighties as well. This author while young in 1981 -82 has contested the DUSU elections as presidential candidate of Indian Students Congress along with Sanjoy Sachdev who stood for the post of general secretary in my panel, supported and backed by Jai Mala and professor Bhim Singh.
He also went on a foreign motorcycle tour of Iraq etc and maintained good relations with Iraqi President Saddam Hussain. He had also among hundreds of political events also invited frontier Gandhi Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan and Yasser Arafat of Palestine to his functions in New Delhi at Constitution club while they were in India on official visits as he maintained good relations with several foreign dignitaries as well.
A true fighter for the oppressed n depressed people, a renowned struggle ful leader of Jammu and Kashmir whose entire life was dedicated to J n K and the nation, a leading supreme court advocate, friend of erstwhile prince and prime minister of J & K and former union minister Dr. Karan Singh n uncompromising leader for power n positions professor Bhim Singh’s passing away is really a great loss to Jammu and Kashmir and those who’d worked with him in Panthers Party. While expressing his grief and condolences BJP leader of Jammu and Kashmir Devendra Singh Rana tweeted : In the sad demise of professor Bhim Singhji, J & K has lost a prominent political figure who always raised the voice of the people of J & K in all foras. A firebrand leader who came from a remote village in Ram Nagar evolved himself with global exposure and understanding. RIP Professor Sahib tweeted BJP leader Devendra Singh. Praying to almighty to render peace to his soul. RIP.
