Finally the suspense regarding alleged horse trading over. New Mayor of Delhi to be elected on 6 January

The newly elected unified municipal Corporation of Delhi will elect the new mayor on 6 th of August. The first official sitting of the unified 250 newly elected municipal councillors will be electing their mayor of this, day after taking of the oath to all the councillors. Currently Aam Admi Party which has the largest strength in Delhi Municipal Corporation of 134 elected members got two new councillors namely Sabita Begum from Mustabanad and Nazia Khaatun from Brijpuri ward who had joined it from Congress. Now the total strength of Aam Admi Party in Municipal Corporation of Delhi has enhanced to 136 and the Congress party’s strength reduced to 8 Corporators. The BJP has won on 103 seats in the DMC election being the major opposition party. According to the government notification the Lt governor of Delhi V. K. Saxena in exercise of powers vested in him vide Section 73 of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957 has, approved the proposal to convene the first meeting of the newly elected Corporation on Friday, 6 th January, 2023.

The proposal to this effect as per law was moved by the Commissioner MCD on 12 December to the Urban Development Department requesting for LG’s approval to convene the first meeting of MCD. The Raj Niwas thereafter received the file approved by deputy CM Manish Sisodia who is minister for Urban Development and, CM Arvind Kejrival on 14,12,22 and accorded it his due approval. As per sub section (1) of Section 35 of DMC Act” The corporation shall at its first meeting in each year, elect one of its members to the Chairperson to be known as the Mayor and another Member to be the Deputy Mayor of the Corporation. As per Section 77 of the said Act, the Presididing officer at the meeting for election of Mayor shall be a Councillors who is not a candidate for such election and shall be nominated by the LG said the order. As per the Section (3) of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957 the Corporation will consist of Councillors, Myers of Lok Sabha and Members of Rajya Sabha from NCT of Delhi, 2/5 th of the members of the Delhi Assembly nominated by the speaker by rotation every year and ten persons to be nominated by the Administrator( Alderman without voting rights).

On 6 th of January 250 councillors, ten MPs and 14 lawmakers of Delhi I. E. 274 members will elected the Mayor n deputy mayor of Delhi tweeted Jagdish Mamgain former chairman of standing Committee in Delhi MCD. The suspense regarding alleged horse trading of councillors has finally come to an end. A powerful Municipal Corporation should now honour the mandate accorded to them in this election tweeted Mamgain in Hindi.
