Excessive rains damage 7 shops in Purola, Khadd area of Uttarkashi, Garhwal ! No human casualty.
Due to heavy rains in Uttarkashi district, Garhwal Uttarakhand since yesterday, news about massive destruction and about seven shops getting swept away n badly damaged have been reported in Purola area after the water level at Kumola Khadd has increased manifold in Ward number 5 with fortunately no human casualties witnessed. This destruction of about seven shops happened at 3 AM due to excessive rains taking shops into its fold, tilting them downwards from the base. The swept away shops in this massive deluge were the Punjab National Bank ATM, two jewellery showrooms, a hotel, global computer shop and a tailor shop etc. According to the latest news the electricity poles and connections have also been damaged completely, adversely affecting the power supply. The shops were reportedly in bad shape since long which got swept away and completely damaged due this deluge after uncontrollable excessive rains. The traffic in Yamunotri and Gangotri highways has also been adversely affected due to heavy rains and subsequent landslides and falling boulders on Karnaprayag Ranikhet highway as well. The meteorological department has already given information about the heavy rains earlier. However, the blocked traffic was eased on Tuesday night on Karnaprayag Ranikhet marg. The commuters had to wait for several hours to reach Ranikhet say the news reports. This happened because a heavy truck got stucked in landslide on Karnaprayag Ranikhet Marg which took several hours to ease the traffic situation after it ( truck) was retrieved from the landslide.
