The dates of the general election will be announced on Saturday. The schedule of the elections would be announced on Saturday at Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhawan where the Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar in the presence of the new election Commissioners will furnish the detailed information about the election schedule to the national media. The time of the official press conference has been fixed for Saturday 1.30 onwards. Yesterday the two new election commissioners were appointed after Arun Goyal had resigned a few days ago citing personal compulsions as reason to resign and another EC retiring earlier. The new two election commissioners appointed on Friday are ,1988 batch , ex IAS Ganesh Kumar and former chief secretary of Uttarakhand Sukhbir Sandhu. Both the appointments were approved by the prime minister led selection panel at a meeting on Thursday attended by the union home minister Amit Shah, and leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary. The Congress leader Choudhary had dissented raising objections on the way the procedure was violated while appointing both the ECs. He said he was just ten minutes before given the shortlisted list of the six candidates saying that it sounded just like a formality.
