Landslides and natural calamities are common mishappenings in the Himalayan states , especially during the monsoon seasons. While during peak summers majority of the forests become the victim of forest fires leading to extensive loss of flora and fauna including human deaths during monsoons these Himalayan states like Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh become prone to massive landslides, heavy rains, overflooding, cloud burst incidents, boulder falling and subsequent loss to human lives and incessant accidents due to bad and slippery roads. Not a day is left when the print and electronics media doesn’t carry news about these mishappenings in Garhwal and Kumaon divisions of Uttarakhand. As this was not enough, a video is going viral in social media according to which an entire village TOLI IN Ghanshyali block, of Tehri Garhwal comprising of pucca cemented houses numbering nearly forty or little more houses being completely destroyed by massive landslides coming down with extensive force taking into its forceful tides each and every house one by one, gradually. (Some say the village’s name is Toli in Ghanshyali blk while some say it’s Tingarh in Bhilangana blk of Tehri, Garhwal). The residents probably had vacated their houses having been cautioned after some of the residents sensed the massively falling landslides from the high altitude mountain on the back side of the TOLEE village in Ghanshyali block. The landslide was so powerful and massive that it took into its fold every house of the village that came under the impact of its debris with boulders. The NDRF teams and police including the people of the village and surrounding villages reached the venue and search in on to ascertain the loss of lives if any and the quantam of loss to properties. A social activist who has fought relentlessly for the people of Joshimath after their land and houses developed cracks due to large scale subsidence last year Atul Sati wrote on social media handle X : Tingarh village of Bhilangana development block of Tehri district was covered with debris of landslide in broad daylight. People left the village as soon as they sensed the danger. There has been a huge loss to the belongings of the people. The government should compensate for the loss by giving adequate compensation. What is interesting about this village is that some say it is Tingarh village of Bhilangana block of Tehri Garhwal while some say it is TOLEE village of Ghanshyali block.
