Earthquake tremors felt in Delhi, NCR and Haryana at 9.04 AM measuring 4.4 on Richter scale

Delhi, NCR and several parts of Haryana today felt tremors at 9.04 AM measuring 4.4 magnitude on the Richter scale creating quite a panic among residents with several of them coming down in desperation and fear with their children. The tremors were felt in Delhi, NCR, Ghaziabad, Noida, Faridabad, Gurugram, Rohtak, Sonipat and several parts of Haryana. Earlier too Delhi witnessed several earthquake tremors. Delhi-NCR experienced a tremor on 17 February at 4.0 M, with the epicentre in Delhi’s Dhaula Kuan at a depth of 5 km. According to the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, the seismicity around Delhi is associated with the Delhi-Haridwar Ridge, a major fault zone prone to earthquakes. According to the latest news quoting National Centre for Seismology the earth quake’s epic centre was traced at Jhajhar, Haryana going down to ten kilometres depth. The tremors forced residents to come down rapidly with children going in the outdoors with thankfully no reports of any injury or collateral damages. This writer was awake when the tremors were felt in his third storeyed building for a few seconds in the morning. It may be recalled that the NCS reported that the epicentre was located in 9 km east of New Delhi, with coordinates at latitude 28.59°N and longitude 77.16°E. The agency posted the details on X shortly after the quake. According to the seismologists while Uttarakhand is under Zone 5 highly seismic zone, the national capital territory falls under Zone 4 equally risky for earthquakes. Moreover, after the metro there have been lots of tunnels in Delhi , though they are all quake resistant and high towered buildings which definitely pose danger to the National capital on account of earthquakes of over 6 to 7 magnitude arriving in Delhi.
