Draupadi Murmu is the 15 th President of Indian Republic defeating Yashwant Sinha !
The former governor of Jharkhand and BJP led NDA presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu has won the election. She is now the 15 th president of Indian republic. She will be sworn in as the 15 th president of India on 25 th July by the chief justice of India in a glittering function at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
The winning BJP led NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu secured 2824 first preference votes value of which was 6.76,803. The quota for a candidate to be elected the president was 5, 28,491 voted.
According to the latest news the Presidential election was concluded with the declaration of results in which total 4754 votes were polled out of which 4701 votes were valid and 53 we’re invalid. On the other hand the defeated opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha secured 1,877 first preference votes with its total value coming to 3,80,177 votes. Since the 1 st preference votes secured by Draupadi Murmu were much more than the requisite quota she was officially declared as the winner candidate.
Kindly recall that the BJP led NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu secured 64% votes whereas the opposition candidate Yaswant Sinha secured 36% votes.
The prime minister Narendra Modi Narendra Modi while thanking all the MPs and MLAs especially those who voted across party lines for the triumph of Draupadi Murmu as president said that this augurs well for our democracy.
PM Modi tweeted : Smt Drapadi Murmu has been an outstanding MLA and minister. She had an excellent tenure as Jharkhand governor. I am certain she will be an outstanding president who will lead from the front and strengthen India’s development journey tweeted PM.
The former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi in his tweet wrote : Congratulations and best wishes to Smt Draupadi Murmuji, on being elected as the 15 th President of India tweeted Rahul Gandhi.
TMC chief n CM, West Bengal while congratulating Mamta Bannerjee tweeted :
I would like to congratulate Hon’ble Presidential Elect Smt Draupadi Murmu. The country will sincerely look up to you as the Head of our Constitution & be the custodian of our democracy, especially when nation is plagued with so many dissensions tweeted TMC CM of West Bengal.
The speaker Lok Sabha Om Birla also congratulated Draupadi Murmu on her election tweeting : Congratulated Draupadi Murmuji after meeting her on her election securing a new responsibility.
Draupadi Murmu is the first tribal politician from a modest background to have reached the top of a largest democratic country of the world which in itself is a history. Senior journalist and columnist Satish Mishra while congratulating her on her historic victory to the top constitutional post said that hope she will work hard n with dedication for improving the lot of the poor, tribals and backward strata of the society setting an outstanding example than being just a silent spectator or symbol.
