Dr. Harak Singh Rawat joins Congress at a closed door modest get together at AICC
After lot of hulla baloo and opposition from Harish Rawat and his camp with Rajya Sabha Congress MP Pradeep Tamata, Kedarnath MLA Manoj Rawat, several party leaders n workers opposing his entry into Congress party, the expelled BJP leader and cabinet minister Dr. Harak Singh Rawat is reported to have joined the 125 year old party in a room at AICC in the presence of former Uttarakhand CM and chief election strategist Harish Rawat, Uttarakhand Congress incharge Devendra Rawat, Uttarakhand Congress chief Ganesh Godiyal, leader of the opposition Pritam Singh n chairman of the steering committee chief of Congress for distribution of tickets Avinash Pandey, on Wednesday after veteran Congress leader Harish Rawat finally relented when Dr. Rawat publicly sought apologies from him considering him his elder brother. Dr. Rawat’s daughter in law, an aspirant from Lansdowne, former Miss India Anukriti Gusain also joined Congress being her debut in politics.
In the picture Dr. Rawat and all the Congress leaders are seen in a jubilant mode welcoming the expelled BJP leader and Dr. Harak Singh Rawat wearing a Congress tricolour Patta over his shoulders with Harish Rawat shaking hands with him.
The list of Congress is likely to be released this evening. The Congress party has made it a close door affair as its leaders wanted to avoid trivial questions of the media especially in view of the controversial image of Dr. Rawat and opposition from certain quarters within Congress party.
This being the day of declaration of Congress tickets today the leaders avoided any further controversy making Dr. Rawat’s entry a modest affair. There are reports that Dr. Harak Singh Rawat will extensively campaign for the party to ensure BJ’s defeat and her daughter in law will be given ticket from Lansdowne constituency. However, there is tremendous opposition of Rawat’s daughter in law, former Miss India Anukriti Gusain from Lansdowne and all the Congress ticket claimants have clubbed together to oppose her candidature tooth n nail. Sounds surprising that former Uttarakhand CM and chief of the Uttarakhand election campaign committee Harish Rawat who is extremely active in social media especially twitter has not tweeted after Dr. Rawat’s joining the Congress party today. What does this indicate is anyones’ guess?

It goes without saying that politics makes strange bedfellows. But nuances of realpolitik are such that political decisions taken by men at the helm of party should not turn out to be “Harakari” for the party.
For all practical purposes, the decision taken by congress high command to let Dr Harak Rawat rejoin the party could not be termed as pragmatic one. If party think tanks are foreseeing in their decision a political loss for BJP, then they are definitely mistaken in their beliefs. For, had Dr Rawat been man-Friday for BJP, the party mandarins would not have expelled him. Any avid-watcher of Uttarakhand politics would vouch my opinion that Dr Rawat had become too big for his boots.
