Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland, France, Germany, and the UK will be subject to a 10% tariff from February 1, 2026 : US President Trump

The most vociferous United States president Donald Trump behaving more like a dictator imposing 25% tariff against India trying to establish his hegemony has now turned his eyes towards the European countries considered to be the US allies traditionally.
Recently in his new tweet the US president has literally announced to impose ten percent tarrif on several European nations.
According to the latest development the US President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social yesterday, January 17, 2026, stating that Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland, France, Germany, and the UK will be subject to a 10% tariff from February 1, 2026. This tariff will be increased to 25% from June 1, 2026.
These tariffs will remain in place until the US reaches an agreement to purchase Greenland entirely.
He has accused European countries of playing a “dangerous game” by sending troops to Greenland. If this is actually done, it is sure to have a very negative impact on the relations between Europe and America.
Trump says Greenland is vital to US national security. China and Russia also covet it because of its strategic location in the Arctic and its reserves of rare minerals, oil, and gas.
Greenland is an autonomous territory under the control of Denmark. Some key facts about it are:
• Greenland is the world’s largest island.
• It is part of the Kingdom of Denmark,
• It enjoys considerable autonomy in internal affairs,
• It has its own parliament and government,
• Subjects such as foreign policy, defence and currency are still under Danish control,
• The people of Greenland are considered citizens of Denmark.
• Its autonomy has increased further since the Self-Government Act of 2009.
• After the US purchased Alaska in 1867, it set its sights on Greenland and Iceland.
• In 1946, President Truman offered Denmark $100 million in gold but was refused.
• In 2019, Trump first offered what he called a “major real estate deal,” which Denmark rejected as “absurd.”
• Now, in 2026, a strong attempt to establish dominance by imposing tariff pressure again.
Both Denmark and Greenland have repeatedly stated that they are not for sale.
Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and Finland have said US threats are unacceptable.
Thousands of people are protesting in Denmark and Greenland today against Trump’s dictatorial attitude.
