After being on 15 days hunger strike demanding inclusion of Leh Ladakh under the jurisdiction of the sixth schedule of the constitution, eminent environmentalist and activist Sonam Wangchuk broke his hunger strike after the violence erupted in Leh Ladakh with four persons being killed and nearly hundred injured including burning of a truck and properties yesterday.

The local administration imposed curfew in entire Leh including Kargil imposing restrictions on more than five people collecting together in the public place.

The union home ministry has issued a statement instructing people prohibiting them from circulating old and inflammatory videos etc through social media and other platforms.

According to the home ministry statement : Except for the regrettable statements earlier in the day, the situation in Ladakh was brought under control by 4.00 PM further mentioning that the union government remains fully committed to meeting the aspirations of the people of Ladakh by ensuring complete constitutional safeguards.

While breaking his fast, Wangchuk said in the Press Conference that he decided to give up his fast in view of the situation going out of hand for the violence, being apprehensive that his silent protest may further lead to situation going out of hand.

He strongly condemned the violence and requested people to be calm and peaceful.

Wangchuk also clarified that no political party was behind the agitation,

Meanwhile, the national convenor of AAP and former Delhi CM At und Kejriwal came out with a big statement saying : What is happening in Ladakh today is extremely worrying. Every true patriot should support the people of Ladakh.

Did we gain independence from the British so that the people would become slaves of the BJP instead of the British?

Revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh and Chandrashekhar Azad sacrificed their lives for democracy so that every Indian has the right to choose their own government.

But today, the BJP, intoxicated with power, is converting one state after another into Union Territories and snatching away the rights given by the Constitution.

What are the people of Ladakh demanding? They are simply demanding the right to vote and the right to choose a government. But the BJP is suppressing their voices. Despite repeated promises, it is not granting them the right to vote.

Democracy is the voice of the people… and when the government starts suppressing that voice, then it is the duty of the people to speak in a louder voice.

If we want to protect our country’s democracy, we can no longer remain silent against this dictatorship. Today’s fight in Ladakh could become a national battle tomorrow wrote Kejrival on X.
