Delhi’s cabinet minister accuses Haryana for not giving Delhi its due water share and writes to PM informing, if her demand not met by 21 st June, would sit on indefinite hunger strike
Though the power demand has surged tremendously to 8647 Megawatt breaking all time records, the national capital is bracing with acute water crisis with millions of residents, especially from the lower strata of the society literally fighting in the streets for drinking water with parched throats. The Delhi minister incharge of Water department, DJB has threatened to go on indefinite hunger strike from June 21 accusing the BJP led Haryana government for supplying less water to Delhi creating the chaotic situation. Atishi Bhardwaj , Delhi minister, incharge of DJB said has written a two page strong letter to Prime minister Narendra Modi threatening to sit on indefinite hunger strike from 21 June if the Haryana government led by BJP doesn’t increase its water share for Delhites with parched throats. According to Atishi Marlena in this scorching heat, when Delhiites need more water, the Haryana government is releasing less water into the Yamuna. Yesterday, Delhi received only 513 MGD water from Haryana instead of 613 MGD. Due to this shortage of 100 MGD water, 28 lakh Delhiites are yearning for every drop of water. I tried everything possible – requested the Chief Minister of Haryana, Himachal also agreed to give water but Haryana refused. Our MLAs went to meet the Jal Shakti Minister, pleaded before the Supreme Court, Delhi government officials also went to Haryana. But the Haryana government did not agree. Now the suffering of the people of Delhi cannot be seen… I have requested the Prime @NarendraModi to intervene and ensure that Delhiites get water by 21 June. If Delhiites do not get their rightful share of water, I will go on an indefinite hunger strike from 21 June.
