Delhi police arrests 14 rioters including the one who fired bullet at policeman. Pistol also seized

The Delhi Police has arrested fourteen rioters in connection with the Jahangirpuri clashes that took place between two communities on Hanuman Jayanti day including a miscreant who fired at a policemen injuring him. The pistol used in the crime has also been recovered from his possession.

The arrests were made after intensive investigations by Delhi Police who assured that the remaining trouble makers will be arrested in the near future and dealt with sternly as the investigations are in rapid progress. This information was given by Delhi Police through a tweet on Sunday.

There had been number of for and against responses to the Delhi Police tweet with some tweets exhibiting videos of people of a particular community brandishing swords openly and pelting stones, soda bottles etc on police and people of other community, while some tweets blaming another community.

After the arrests two main culprits namely Aslam and Ansar including 12 other miscreants were produced in Rohini Court who were remanded to 14 days judicial custody.

Out of 14, the two main culprits Aslam and Ansar were sent in police custody for further interrogation. It is believed that both the main culprits have agreed to their guilt of hatching a conspiracy to create disturbance intentionally. There are reports of a pistol and five swords recovered from the culprits. Some videos were shared in social media showing the rioters openly brandishing swords in the crowd.

Meanwhile the Delhi Police team and crime branch sleuths led by special Commissioner law and order Dependra Pathak have collected CCTV footages of around twenty cameras of the strife torn areas in Jahangirpuri and are involved in indepth investigations with some more miscreants nabbed. The footages of CCTV cameras are being deeply viewed to trace the miscreants involved in these crashes and vandalisation, loss of public property and physical harm to the police and other people. About seven persons were reportedly injured including a policeman hit by a bullet.

According to the news reports the incident took place in Jahangirpuri on the day of Hanuman Jayanti when a religious procession hailing Lord Hanuman passed with bhajans near a mosque. There were some altercation between two groups of majority and minority community. A sub inspector on duty tried his best to pacify both the communities and ensured that the clash between the group is avoided. But soon pelting of stones commenced and thereafter a riotous situation resulting in injuring of a policeman through a bullet fired at him. Some cars were burnt n policemen injured by the rioters. The injured policemen were taken to the hospital for immediate treatment.

The police brought the situation under control after great efforts. The Delhi Police commissioner Mr. Asthana and special commissioner Law and Order IPS Dependra Pathak has assured that the situation is fully under control as police has been deputed in sensitive areas in Jahagirpuri as well as in other localities of Delhi including JNU etc.

The police officers alongwith Aman committees are visiting various localities of Jahangirpuri appealing people to maintain peace and harmony at all costs said IPS Dependra Pathak. In a tweet the Delhi Police commissioner yesterday evening said : In today’s incident in NW District, the situation is under control. Adequate additional force has been deployed in Jahangirpuri and other sensitive areas.

Senior officers have also been asked to remain in the field and closely supervise the law & order situation and undertake patrolling tweeted Delhi Police commissioner.

He further added that strict action will be taken against the rioters. Citizens are requested not to pay any heed to rumours and fake news in social media.

The Union home minister Amit Shah has also spoken to the Delhi Police commissioner on Saturday directing him to maintain law and order at all costs and dealing with the rioters sternly.

The Delhi CM Arvind Kejrival in his tweet appealed the people to maintain peace and amity. In his tweet he wrote : The incident of stone pelting in Shobhayatra in Jahagirpuri is strongly condemnable. The defaulters should be dealt with sternly. Appeal to all – maintain peace and amity by holding each other’s hand tweeted Delhi CM Arvind Kejrival.

Meanwhile the war of words continued between the union minister Anurag Thakur and Delhi CM Arvind Kejrival with the former blaming him of worrying about Punjab, visiting there often but not caring about Delhi with riots taking place, passing the blame on other people while Arvind Kejrival responded asking under who’s jurisdiction is the Delhi Police? The Delhi Police comes under the jurisdiction of the centre and to maintain law and order is their primary responsibility he said.
