Delhi LG grants permission to register case under UAPA charges against Booker Prize winner Arundhati Roy and others
The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Vinay Kumar Saxena has recommended for immediate prosecution of prestigious Booker prize winner , sixty two years old Eminent writer Arundhati Roy and former professor of Kashmir central university Shoukat Hussain including others like Hurriyet leader Jilani etc under the draconian Prevention of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act passed in 1967 giving absolute power to the central government.
The orders were issued by the LG Delhi in connection with a 2010 case in which both of these activists, intellectuals have been held responsible for giving a highly provocative speech at “Azaadi the only way”, on a complaint filed by one Sushil Pandit, a Kashmiri activist.
Arundhati Roy is a recipient of Booker Prize delivered to her in a glittering function in London in 1997 for her authored book titled : THE GOD OF SMALL THINGS followed by an another reputed prize accorded in 2004 at Sidney called “The Sydney Peace Prize”, including “The Norman Miller prize”, for outstanding writing in the year 2011 etc.
Arundhati Roy is, apart from a progressive writer, also a vociferous activist having to her credit several awards and recognitions like Lennan Foundation Award and award for Women in Peace etc.
According to the latest news, the complainant Sushil Pundit himself and activist hailing from Strife Torn Kashmir has registered a complaint in the court of Metropolitan Magistrate under section 156 ( 3) of CRPC who had disposed the complaint in November 27, 2010 with the directions to register an FIR.
It is said that the complainant has provided the court, the recorded statements in the highly provocative speeches by Arundhati Roy and Hurriyet Conference leader Mr.Gilani saying that Kashmir needs Azaadi as it had never been the part of India etc. Arundhati Roy in her capacity as a progressive activist is a strong opponent of the ruling political dispensation and its top leadership and had been in the middle of controversies due to her various objectionable statements.
