Delhi CM approached centre, asks to speak to Haryana and UP govts to give Delhi its share of water as demand has escalated in view of tremendous heat waves

In view of the extreme surge in temperature in Delhi crossing 50 degrees Celcius there is scute water shortage in the national capital. The increasing population crossing two crores , the residents of Delhi in various localities are reeling under scute water crisis especially those living in slum clusters, unauthorised colonies. The water scarcity also exists in the localities inhabited by middle class people. The underground water level to has depleted tremendously. Water scarcity residents are forming long qirs outside the Delhi board tankers who despite their best efforts are not able to cope with the situation with people complaining against Delhi Jal Board. The Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejrival has appealed to the central government and the ruling party leaders of BJP to forget political differences and ensure that Delhi residents experiencing tremendous water shortages are supplied adequate quantity of drinking water. He said this is not the time to fight politically but to quench the thirst of the Delhi residents who are struggling hard to get drinking water. In a social media post on his X handle Kejrival while appealing to the central, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh governments to help Delhi get their water share wrote : This time, the entire country is experiencing unprecedented heat due to which there is a crisis of water and electricity across the country. Last year, the peak demand for electricity in Delhi was 7438 MW. In comparison, this year the peak demand has reached 8302 MW. But despite this, the power situation in Delhi is under control, there are no power cuts like in other states. But in this scorching heat, the demand for water has increased a lot and the water that Delhi used to get from the neighbouring states has also been reduced. That means the demand has increased a lot and the supply has reduced. We all have to solve this together. I see that BJP colleagues are protesting against us. This will not solve the problem. I request everyone with folded hands that instead of doing politics at this time, let us come together and provide relief to the people of Delhi. If BJP talks to its governments in Haryana and UP and gets some water for Delhi for a month, then the people of Delhi will greatly appreciate this step of BJP. Such scorching heat is not in anyone’s control. But if we all work together, can we provide relief to the people from this – said Delhi CM Kejrival on X ?
