Dalit boy of Block Mori, Uttarkashi badly thrashed with burnt sticks for entering temple to pay obeisance to deities after locking him the whole night
When we hear about any shameful news about a dalit man not allowed to go in a temple and thrashed badly after Sovereign Democratic Republic attaining independence 75 years ago from the British colonial rule, we shamefully hang out heads down. And if such an obnoxious incident happens in a state like Uttarakhand famous as the land of abode of Gods having four historic temples n thousands of other Hindu temples since ages than we feel more shame than ever as today we live in a constitutional bound society that guarantees everyone freedom to process their religion n pursue their faith including punishment for obstructing dalits or any caste person in the temples of the country which earlier used to be the case. This shameful incident unfortunately happened in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district where a dalit man was allegedly badly thrashed and tortured by the forward caste people as her s fault was to enter a pious temple. This charge was levelled by the divisional president of SC ST Employees Federation of Garhwal Mandal. According to a news published in “VANCHIT SWAR”, a portal highlighting the genuine causes of the dalits in Uttarakhand quoting the chief of the Uttarakhand, SC ST Federation wrote that on 9 th January, 2023 as soon as Attar Lal of village Mainol ( SAALRA) entered the temple for obeisance of local deities under Mori block in Uttarkashi a group of people, obviously of higher castes locked him in the temple and started piercing the burned sticks on his body the entire night injuring him. As per the news the tortured youth’s clothes were turned n injured by piercing the burned sticks in her body parts. The dalit boy suffered a cute pain and cried but no body pitied on him, finally becoming unconscious. In the morning while the injured unconscious boy in the night became conscious he clandestinely ran away saving himself lest he would have been thrashed further. The injured falit boy went to the police station requesting to lodged an FIR but wasn’t entertained. Hence he approached the chief of the divisional SCST Federation of Uttarakhand who approached the SP of the range and the officer directed the Station House Officer of Mori police station to lodge an FIR. According to Engineer CL Bharti, who is the chief of the SC ST Federation the police has registered atight case under sections 147,323,504,506, ga of SCST Act 3 {1} {x).
