CWC meeting underway to evaluate humiliating defeat of Congress in 5 states. Harish Rawat holds himself responsible for Uttarakhand debacle

After losing all the five states in the recently held elections leading to failed leadership of trio Sonia, Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi with Congress getting merely 2 seats in UP and 18 each in Punjab and Uttarakhand n negligibly in Goa and Manipur as well, the Congress Working Committee meeting is being held at the party head quarter 24 Akbar Road, New Delhi, chaired by its interim president Sonia Gandhi to analyse and asses the reasons for its such a huge defeat.

Several leaders of G 23 group are also attending the meeting.

As per the latest reports besides Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Malikarjun Khadge, Anand Sharma, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, Ajay Maken, P. Chidambaram, Ambika Soni etc are present in the meeting.

However, the former prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, former union defence minister A. K. Antony n some leaders are not able to attend due to their ill health. Senior Congress leader A. K. Antony has been infected with Covid and his son gave this information through a tweet writing : My dad S ri. A. K. Antony tested positive for # Covid today. He was having fever since yesterday. He is extremely disappointed to not being able to attend today’s CWC melting which he has been attending since 1984 tweeted Antony’s son.

During the discussions on the humiliating defeat of the party the Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot has reiterated his demand for making Rahul Gandhi the president of the party.

The meeting is expected to be stormy in view of the very poor show of Congress losing all the states even Punjab where it sidelined the then Punjab CM Captain Amrinder Singh finally leading to its humiliating defeat at the hands of AAP and despite party’s general secretary Priyanka Gandhi’s extensive efforts, campaigning and strategic moves lost in UP badly, gaining mere two seats out of 403 assembly seats, with no leader of G 23 group campaigning in Uttar Pradesh nor their services sought.

There are reports that several heads will fall down seeking resignations of all party chiefs of these states including those responsible for this debacle.

Meanwhile, talking to ANI, the CWC member and former chief minister Harish Rawat has taken the responsibility of the party’s debacle in Uttarakhand on his head saying that the CWC will deeply discuss on the reasons of losing a winning state.

In a social media post Harish Rawat has accused the Bhartiya Janata Party of spreading baseless n fictitious rumours of Muslim university in Uttarakhand, despite the very fact that he or the Congress party have never given any assurance of establishing a muslim university either in Uttarakhand or at the pan India level.

It may be called that today’s meeting is the first CWC meeting being held after the debacle of Congress in five states after it was held earlier befor these polls, to discuss the controversial letter written by G 23 leader to Sonia Gandhi urging for the change in leadership.

Prior to that in an earlier CWC meeting convened to evaluate the debacle of Congress party nationally in 2019 elections, the then Congress president Rahul Gandhi had taken the responsibility of the party’s drubbing on his head and quit from the post, enabling his mother Sonia Gandhi to take the cudgels in her hands becoming the interim president of the party despite her bad health with G 23 group leaders urging for change in leadership.
