CPI( M) respects the overwhelming mandate of the UN General Assembly for an immediate ceasefire of the Israel invasion of Gaza. Expresses shock over India’s abstention !
The Communist Party of India ( Marxists) today issued a statement expressing its shock over the abstention of India on a resolution overwhelmingly adopted by the UN General Assembly calling for humanitarian truce titled ” Protection of civilians and upholding the legal and humanitarian obligations “, in the ongoing Israel offensive in Gaza. In a press statement issued here today, the CPM while expressing its immense shock over India’s abstention in UN General Assembly which was overwhelmingly adopted said that this Indian attitude unambiguously shows the extent to which Indian Foreign Policy is shaped by being a subordinate ally of US Imperialism and the Modi government’s actions for consolidating the US – Israel- India nexus. This negates India’s longstanding support to the Palestinian cause states the press statement.
Accusing Israel for stepping up its genocidal attack on Palestinian despite UN resolution being passed, the CPM said as the United Nations General Assembly adopted this resolution , Israel has stepped up its genocidal air and grounds attack in the Gaza Strip and has cut off all communications in Gaza which is home to 2.2 millions Palestinians. In a tweet CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury Wrote in social media, platform X : Respecting the overwhelming mandate of the UN General Assembly there must be an immediate ceasefire . The United Nations must, re energise itself to implement the mandate of the Security Council for a 2 State solution with pre 1967 borders with East – Jerusalem as the capital of State Jerusalem.
