Congress welcomes BJP govt’s decision to change Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Puruskar to legendary Major Dhyan Chand’s name but says shouldn’t have been used for vested political interests
The chief spokesman of Congress Randeep Singh Surjewala has welcomed the decision of prime minister Narendra Modi to change the name of the highest sports award from Rajiv Gandhi Khel puruskar to Major Dhyan Chand khel Puruskar though levelling the allegation that the decision has been taken with the ulterior motive of serving their vested political interests.
Paying his reverence to the heroic sportsman and magician of Indian Hockey ,scoring 14 goals in Olympics several decades ago, Surjewala said Congress party welcomes the decision to honour the magician of Indian Hockey Major Dhyan Chandji. However, it would have been better had the BJP and PM not used his name for vested political interests.
Responding to the decision of prime minister Narendra Modi while welcoming it the chief spokesman of Congress Randeep Singh Surjewala said that the prime minister Narendra Modi is trying to cover his blush of cutting the sports budget by Rs 230 crores in the current Olympics year and is therefore trying to divert people’s attention from this issue as well as from inflation, Pegasus spying and grievances of the agitating farmers by changing the name of Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratn Puruskar to Major Dhyan Chand Puruskar.
Virtually speaking to media and countrymen , the video of which has been loaded on his Twitter handle Randeep Singh Surjewala while lauding former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi said that he was, is and will be the hero ( Nayak) of this country. Rajiv Gandhi was not known by and for awards. He is known for his, sacrifice, ideology and as the builder of modern India tweeted Surjewala.
He said, we heartily welcome the decision to name the highest Sports Award instituted in 2002 in legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand ji’s name from Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award.
It is indeed a good start. Now, the names of Gujarat’s Narendra Modi stadium and Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium should also be changed. The entire country will be satisfied by this decision.
He categorically said that all the stadiums and teams should be named after legendary Racer late Milkha Singhji, PT Usha, known as Flying queen of India and all the sportspersons of the country viz leander Paes, PV Sindhu, Mary Kom, Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Vishvanathan Anand, Sania Mirja, Gopi Chand etc etc.
