CONGRESS secures a comfortable majority in HP getting 40 seats in 68 member assembly
The oldest party of the country – Congress which has done very discouragingly in Gujarat and coming in distant third position in Delhi elections has compensated adequately for the loss by winning the Himachal Pradesh election securing forty seats in the assembly of 68 after declaration of election results. The former ruling party BJP has secured 25 seats and AAP not able to open its account while three independents won. What is interesting about this election result is that while AAP could not open its account it has got only one percent vote share while Congress party got 44% votes and BJP 42%. This means AAP has completely flopped in HP as had flopped in Uttarakhand where BJP was in the ruling not able to wrest Congress votes from it.
The chief minister of Himachal Pradesh Jai ram Thakur while accepting the mandate of the electorates of HP ousting him and his party out of state power said , he will tender his resignation to the governor short while from now and added that he respects people’s mandate thanking the PM and other senior leaders of the party for reposing faith in him during the last 5 years. He said he will continue to work for the development of the state. The wife of the former Congress veteran CM Veerbhadra Singh, state Congress chief Pratibha Singh while expressing her jubilation over her party’s victory said that the new elected lawmakers will elect their leader democratically in the near future. She said that once the elected MLAs make the name of their choice clear, the new leader would be elected. Pratibha Singh however is a strong contender for the post of CM, Himachal Pradesh. It may be recalled that she worked very hard during the elections and the Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi dedicated herself fully in the Himachal Pradesh election campaigning extensively, drawing huge crowds. Since Rahul Gandhi could not spare time for Himachal Pradesh due his being entangled in Bharat Jodo Yatra she was Priyanka Gandhi who was the sole impressive campaigner for Congress party bringing fruitful results of Congress coming back to power with a comfortable majority. The BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah including national chief JP Nadda’s charisma couldn’t work here, unambiguously stating that the people of the state were completely disenchanted by BJP’s rule. The myth that was broken in Uttarakhand this year of BJP repeating for the second time could not however work in Himachal Pradesh.
Moreover, what surprises everyone is the fact that J. P. Nadda who belongs to Himachal Pradesh cannot make any mark in his own home state despite his being the party’s national chief who devoted his maximum time in Gujarat.
