Congress cabinet minister resigns in HP. BJP’s former CM Jairam Thakur meets governor to bring no confidence motion against Sukhu. 15 BJP lawmakers suspended
The Congress party in Himachal Pradesh, though having a comfortable strength of forty MLAs out of 68 with BJP just 25 MLAs and three independents, is in a dwindling situation as for now, especially after one of its ministers Vikramaditya Singh resigned in a huff from the cabinet accusing his own party leaders and the chief minister for ignoring them for the last one year. Vikramaditya is the son of the former chief minister of Himachal Pradesh Vir Bhadra Singh who’d played a vital role in the victory of Congress party last year. This development occured after six lawmakers of Congress party and three independents cross voted in favour of the BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan making his victorious, with the Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu not able to assess the rebellion in advance and accused the BJP for influencing them by taking them under the cover of CRPF jawans etc. The six MLAs taking refuge in a Haryana hotel under tight security have now reached Himachal Pradesh today, being the first day of the Budget session. This was indeed a very shameful defeat for Congress and its candidate Abhishekh Manu Singhvi considered to be a troubleshooter of Congress by fighting their cases in Supreme Court. It may be recalled that the Congress has a comfortable strength of 40 MLAs as against 25 of BJP. Meanwhile, the BJP leader and former CM Jairam Thakur has today met the governor and submitted a letter urging to bring no confidence in the assembly saying that the Congress government has lost confidence of its lawmakers as just yesterday they have cross voted in favour of the BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan. They also demanded resignation of the chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. According to the latest news the 15 BJP lawmakers have been suspended from Himachal Assembly under the speculation that they were preparing to bring the no confidence motion against the Congress government. Harsh Mahajan is the former MLA several times and son of a former minister and speaker of HP assembly Mr. Desh Raj Mahajan, having never lost any election. Jairam Thakur in a message posted on X with a photograph of his with BJP MLAs meeting governor wrote in hindi : The behaviour of the revered Assembly speaker was not appropriate as per his post’s prestige today. The voice of the opposition wasn’t heard inside the assembly. Our demand for division of votes was revoked and the proceedings of the assembly deferred . This is the abuse of our democratic rights said former Himachal Pradesh CM Jairam Thakur.
