CJI seeks detailed report on the case of a UP woman judge wishing for euthanasia

The matter pertaining to the desire of the woman judge of Uttar Pradesh wishing for euthanasia is gaining momentum with the chief justice of India D. Y. Chandrachud issuing directives to present the status report of the entire impasse before him.

The chief justice of India has sought a detailed report on this issue from the Prayagraj high court, earlier Allahabad.

According to a latest report through sources, the chief justice of India had late night sought the status report from Allahabad high court directing the secretary general of Supreme Court Mr. Atul M. Kurhekar to submit the report.

On the directions of the apex court CJI, the secretary general Kurhekar wrote to the registrar general of Prayagraj High Court seeking detailed report on the complaints filed by the Uttar Pradesh Woman judge.

The secretary general also enquired about the action taken, if any by the inter departmental disciplinary committee.

It may be recalled that the intervention of the CJI in this matter happened after the video went viral in the social media.

According to the letter of the woman judge going viral in social media she was asking for euthanasia after alleged her sexual and mental harrassment and no subsequent action against the erring judge etc.

The letter of the woman judge of district Banda, Uttar Pradesh which went viral in social media revealed how the district judge and his near and dear ones have allegedly mentally and physically tortured and assaulted her.

She also accused about the district judge allegedly pressuring her to meet during the night hours.

The suffering judge stationed at Banda had also complained in her letter about submitting her complaint to the chief justice of Allahabad high court and other senior officers but of no avail.

After being badly demoralised for no action initiated against the erring judge etc the woman judge has asked for Euthanasia through her letter addressed to the CJI of supreme Court.

Expressing her total disenchantment over the enthusiasm with which she had joined the judicial services finally being badly demoralised, the woman judge wrote that she was unfortunately met with a bad, demoralising conduct during her services as judge.

Through her letter she also urged to working women to learn to live with sexual harrassment while doing their duties. Writing in a strong worded language she said that it is indeed pity that despite being judge herself she is not able to deliver justice to her own self against mental and sexual harassment.
