Central Budget Anti-Farmer, Anti-Labor, Anti-Environment – Will Increase Migration from Villages

February 1, 2026

The All India Kisan Mahasabha today declared the Central Budget presented in Parliament as completely detrimental to farmers, laborers, and small businesses, pushing them towards economic crisis and being disastrous for the environment. According to the Kisan Mahasabha, this budget will not only fail to prevent the destruction of agriculture and increase employment in villages, but will instead accelerate migration from rural areas. The direction of the budget provisions will exacerbate the geographical spread of disasters in the country.

In a press release issued today, the Kisan Mahasabha stated that the Modi government, through trade agreements with Britain and the European Union before the budget, and its move towards an even more dangerous agreement with the US, had already prepared for a major attack on the country’s agriculture. Therefore, the country’s farmers had no expectations from this government in this year’s budget.

The concerns of the vast majority of farmers and rural laborers in the country, who are forced into debt and driven to suicide due to unprofitable farming, have never been on the Modi government’s agenda in the last twelve years. This is why the Modi government is turning a blind eye to issues such as a guaranteed MSP law with C-2+50%, the return of the MNREGA scheme with a guarantee of 200 days of work and a daily wage of Rs. 700, and complete debt waiver for farmers and rural laborers.

In recent years, the country has suffered major natural disasters due to the government’s policies based on corporate exploitation. Despite this, the budget provisions remain silent on addressing this critical problem. On the contrary, the budget provisions indicate that the Modi government, which has transformed Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh into disaster-prone regions through its destructive tourism policies, has now set its sights on Jammu and Kashmir and the hills of the Northeast. These destructive steps by the Modi government in the name of tourism development are pushing the environment and ecological system of the Himalayas and the Himalayan states towards destruction. Moreover, the increasing corporate control over the country’s coastlines is also exacerbating the threat to the environment and the livelihoods of coastal communities.

The government’s silence on every demand of farmers and rural laborers in the budget clearly demonstrates the pressure of American imperialism on the Modi government. The All India Kisan Mahasabha calls upon the farmers of the country to strongly condemn the Modi government’s anti-farmer, anti-labor, and anti-environment budget and to mobilize with full force to make the nationwide strike on February 12th a success.
