CBI grills the former principal of Kolkata hospital for several hours . Also summoned by Kolkata police on Wednesday
A day after the Kolkata High Court recommended the highly surcharged case of the obnoxious rape and brutal murder of a 31 year old trainee doctor of R.G.Kar medical hospital to the India premier investigative agency CBI it has started the probe immediately taking the former principal of the above college in custody for interrogation thoroughly questioning him for nearly 60 hours during the last few days.
It may be recalled that apart from the Kolkata High Court recommending the probe if this case to CBI the re have been spate of protests in West Bengal as well as at the pan India level with all the opposition parties protesting especially the BJP.
The Indian Medical Association had also given a call for an all India protest in all the hospitals of the country for a call for strike for 24 hours which was favorably responded to, in all the states. According to the latest news reports the Central Bureau of Investigations sleuths had started interrogating the former principal R.K.Ghosh on Friday questioning him for 12-13 hours everyday and also calling again on Wednesday.
Due to increasing media, opposition and the ruling party at the centre’s alleged pressure the former principal has been so badly entangled in this case that even the Kolkata police has summoned him during the noon on Wednesday.
The pressure on the doctor is very intense for his alleged involvement in the various financial irregularities and also to reveal the name of the victim doctor. The Supreme Court has recently while hearing the petitions in this case have taken strong exception and expressed its annoyance over publication of the pictures and revelation of the identity of the deceased doctor who was also raped. After the case led to the nationwide outrage and the Kolkata High Court recommending the case to CBI and also coming down heavily on the state government for first terming it as suicide and then after public pressure going into the depth of the case though not attending it properly, the case was formally given to CBI by Kolkata High Court to go into the depth of the case and bring the real culprits to book.
The court’s criticism centred around the delay in lodging the FIR on August 9 till the aggrieved parents of the deceased told them that the case was earlier being given the shape of a suicide and after vandalism and protest few days later questions were raised about the case being allegedly hushed up and the West Bengal government and its police incompetent to protect the medical doctors in the hospital.
Just after few days of the Kolkata tragic incident in Uttarakhand a 32 year old nurse ofa private burning home working in Rudrapur , Uttarakhand was obnoxiously raped and brutally murdered with her face thrashed with a heavy stone. The culprit was arrested from Rajasthan. In another shocking incident at Dehradun’s bus station a young girl was repeatedly raped in the bus . Both the women were from minority community.
