Lost a combative investigative journalist Vitusha Oberoi. Tributes

UMAKANT LAKHERA

The unfortunate parting away of journalist former editor of Mid Day Vitisha Oberoi is a huge loss to Delhi journalism who used to highlight every small and big political development taking place in the national capital territory of Delhi.

A dedicated, dynamic and committed journalist Vitusha Oberoi had shifted to Canada one and a half decades ago with her family but being in regular touch with her colleagues was her daily itinerary.

Some years back when she came to Delhi from Canada she informed me about her arrival in order to meet an old friend.

We conversed in detail with her and her husband as well. Humourous, Sombre and an investigative journalist Vitusha always went into the depth of political developments bringing scoops to the fore.

When she stepped in journalism preferring to pursue this difficult profession there were very few girls to pursue journalism.

My first introduction with Vitusha Oberoi took place in Vithal Bhai Patel House where the members of Parliament live and few political offices exist.

It must have been 1989. CPM MP M A Baby (currently the party’s general secretary) became a Rajya Sabha MP for the first time. He raised a matter in Parliament. Then he took the phone numbers of the journalists and called them to his residence at VP House to provide documents on that issue. Vitusha also met him there for the first time. There was a long briefing.

After that, there were meetings for years at all the big and small events in Delhi.

Her untimely death in Toronto yesterday shocked many friends who saw him as a hardworking and combative friend. Our tributes to the noble departed soul.

The Press Club of India condoled the death of Vitusha Oberoi writing on X : The Press Club of India deeply mourns untimely and sad demise of senior journalist Vitusha Oberoi.

We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends and colleagues. May the almighty grant them strength and courage to bear this loss.

She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all in the media fraternity. #RIP
