Capt. Amrinder Singh says : Will oppose Sidhu’s name for Punjab CM as he is a security risk being a close friend of Pak PM and Army chief Bajwa

Exasperated former chief minister of Punjab Captain Amrinder Singh who’d submitted his resignation to Punjab governor this evening accused Punjab Congress chief Navjyot Singh Sidhu as a man with an unstable mind having close friendship with Pakistan prime minister and its Army general Mr. Bajwa and reiterated that he would strongly oppose his name for the chief minister of Punjab. He was speaking to the ANI new agency after his resignation saying that since it’s the question of India’s national security he will under no circumstances accept Navjyot Singh Sidhu as the next CM of Punjab and will oppose tooth and nail in case his name comes up for consideration.

Angered and infuriated with his bete noire Navjyot Singh Sidhu Captain Amrinder Singh said that Punjab has a 700 kilometre border with Pakistan from Pathankot to Fazilka and he had been experiencing illegal supply of large quantity of arms n ammunitions like RDX, pistols, AK 47 n 56 machine guns including heroine from there into Punjab. It’s a national security risk and I can’t tolerate it at any cost especially when Sidhu is having close friendship with Pakistan PM Imran Khan and Army general Bajwa.

On the question as to who will be the next chief minister of Punjab, Captain Amrinder Singh said that it is purely the prerogative of the Congress High Command to nominate its new CM but incase the name of Navjyot Singh Sindhu comes up for consideration he will oppose it tooth and nail said the former CM.

On the question about speculations having contacted the BJP leaders, he categorically denied saying that he haven’t spoken to any leader of opposition party till yet.

It may be recalled that the AICC general secretary Harish Rawat and senior Congress leader Ajay Maken are in Punjab who had called the meeting of Congress legislative party to decide on the name of former Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar. But Sukhvinder Singh Randhava opposed saying that the name of a Punjabi Jat like him should be considered leading to cancellation of the meeting finally leaving the decision on the Congress chief Sonia Gandhi who had after compulsion asked Captain Amrinder Singh to resign on the advise of Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, favouring Punjab chief Navjyot Singh Sidhu. The name of the new CM would be announced on Sunday said sources and there are chances of the name of Sunil Jakhar appearing favourably.
