Campaigning of Garhwal Hiteshini Sabha election in full swing. Voting on 7 th November

The propaganda of the much awaited elections of Garhwal Hiteshini Sabha ( Regd) is in full swing with mainly two panels one led by Ajay Singh Bisht and another by Shailendra Singh Negi in the electoral fray.

This election holds special significance this time as the previous body led by its president Mohabbat Singh Rana and there after by its working president Narendra Singh Negi got extension due to the Covid 19 lock down finally getting the date for its election fixed for 7 th November.

The deadly pandemic took several lives and unfortunately several important figures like its president Mohabbat Singh Rana, life members n former office bearers to name a few Pratap Singh Aswal, Data Ram Joshi, Ram Kishan Joshi etc have succumbed to this dreaded pandemic including several others, one of them being veteran Prem Dutt Tiwari sending shock waves all around.

The panel led by the presidential candidate Ajay Bisht comprises of Dwarika Bhatt for the post of general secretary of GHS whereas another panel led by Shailendra Singh Negi has former general secretary of GHS Pawan Naithani as its contestant this time.

However, three women candidates are contesting for the posts of secretary literature, secretary culture and as executive member from Ajay Singh Bisht’s panel namely Manorma Tiwari Bhatt, Yashodha Ghildiyal and Sanyogita Dhyani which gives added advantage of women voter to this panel say analysts. However the panel of Shailendra Singh Negi doesn’t have a single women candidate. The candidates of other posts including the executive Committee are in the following posters.

Though there are several issues being taken up by the contesting candidates in support of their claims to impress the voters of their respective achievements n future actions but despite the controversial matter pertaining to the occupation of the first floor of the Garhwal Bhawan by a businessman being subjudice lying in the court of law since 2008, this matter is prominently being raised by respective panels to impress upon the voters seeking credit of their past actions to get it vacated in future.

There are more than 4000 members in Garhwal Hiteshini Sabha and the elections of this body holds significance being the oldest social organization of Garhwalies in Delhi where sizeable number of Uttarakhandies reside and have their commanding say in Delhi elections as well.

The former president of Garhwal Hiteshini Sabha late Murari Singh Panwar had been the MLA from Delhi n several councillors of Congress, BJP has represented in Delhi Municipal Corporation as well, considering GHS as a first step to enter politics in the national capital Territory of Delhi fir aspiring politicians.

According to sources while the former president of Garhwal Hiteshini Sabha twice Vikram Adhikari and BJP’s Uttarakhand Prakosht president Arjun Singh Rana is backing the panel of Ajay Singh Bisht with his committed votes the panel of Shailendra Singh is being backed by Brijmohan Upreti of Aam Admi Party. Arjun Singh himself is contesting from Ajay Bisht’s panel.
