Bageshwar BY ELECTION TO GO TO POLLS ON 5 TH SEPTEMBER. BJP LODGES COMPLAINT AGAINST CENTRAL EC OBSERVER
The election campaigning in BAGESHWAR by election has finally come to an end yesterday evening but despite this, the leaders of BJP and Congress are still busy accusing each other as it usually happens, with political parties. The chief minister of Uttarakhand and the BJP state chief has made this by election a prestige issue because the defeat or victory in this election will have the impact on parliamentary elections showing which way is the political wind blowing.
This is significant because the general elections are round the corner and Uttarakhand BJP’s national chief had recently visited Haridwar instructing all the top state party leaders to ensure that the BJP wins on all parliamentary seats this time as well, come what may, as the saffron party fears of losing this time on some seats due to anti incumbency factor which usually goes against the ruling party impacting its parliamentary and the assembly seats, but the BJP leadership wants to turn the tide in its favour this time as well.
Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand BJP chief Mahendra Bhatt fearing defeat in BAGESHWAR by election has lodged a written complaint to the Chief Election Commissioner against a central observer of Election Commission allegedly favouring the Congress party and its candidate.
In the complaint addressed to the CEC, apart from the charges of partiality the BJP chief has also accused the central observer of harassing the BJP workers and working in a dictatorial manner.
A deputation of the BJP leaders led by the BJP state chief Mahendra Bhatt met the state’s chief election officer at Dehradun and complained against the central observer Rajesh Kumar accusing him for outrightly favouring the Congress, party and its candidate. The by – election of Bageshwar assembly constituency will be held on 5 th September and such serious allegations by the ruling party against the central observer is being talked about everywhere.
It may be recalled that this by- election is being held after the untimely demise of the sitting MLA Chandan Dass and the BJP has given the ticket to his wife taking advantage of the sympathy factor that usually works during such by election when the candidate’s husband or near and dear one die while being MLA or MP.
The case of the Saltt MLA is very good to substantiate this logic where the brother of Surendra Jeena MLA who died in between had won hands down, namely Mahesh Jeena.
There are also reports that since the ruling party leaders who were allegedly wanting to get things done as per their wishes during campaigning and the central Election Commission observer didn’t favoured them, they had no option but to lodge a complaint against him to demoralise him or allegedly work according to their dictates.
While the chief minister of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami, Mahendra Bhatt, BJP chief, almost all MLAs and minister including MP almora Ajay Tamata etc campaigned for the BJP candidate from Congress’e side Harish Rawat, Karan Mahara and all the senior Congress leaders including the central observer of Congress Devendra Yadav extensively campaigned for several days.
The BJP’s candidate from here is Parvati Dass wife of Chandan Dass who had defeated Ranjit Rawat of Congress from here by 12000 votes while the Congress candidate is, Basant Kumar. This, seat is a reserved one.
