Avani Lakhera of Rajasthan origin scripted history in shooting. Bags a Gold, raises Indian tricolor high

After winning two medals, one silver and one Bronze in the Paralympics by Bhavina Patel and Vinod Kumar in Table Tennis and Discus throw raising the Indian flag high, India’s Avani Lakhera became the first Indian woman to bring home a prestigious Gold Medal at the Paralympics, firing her way in the first position in the R-2 Women’s 10 meter Air Rifle SH-1event.

According to the latest news scripting history by winning the Gold medal in 10 meter Air Rifle Shooting 1 event Avani Lakhera has filled the wide gap that was created during the Tokyo Olympics when the infighting between various competitors had led to the poor show of shooters bring not a single medal embroiled in controversies, giving reason for media hype.

The merely 19 year old shooter in Paralympics Avani Lekhra is the fourth gold winner in Paralympics having made a world record by equalling the total of 249.6, setting a new Paralympic record in international shooting.

The other Paralympics Gold medalists are Murlikant Petkar in 1972, Devendra Jhajharia in Javeline throw in 2004 n 2016 and Thangavelu in High jump in 2016 Paralympics.

It’s indeed a great day on the ocassion of pious Janmashtami that Avani Lakhera has brought a Gold medal for India in 10 metre shooting scripting a world record rasing the Indian Flag High in Paralympics.

Kindly recall that younger brother of Jaspal Rana, himself an outstanding shooter Subhash Rana is the coach of shooter’s in Paralympics.

While congratulating Avani for her outstanding performance jubilant Subhash Rana termed her exemplary achievement as a historic golden era in Paralympics history.

The Uttarakhand Rifles Association’s chairman Narayan Singh Rana too congratulated the gold winner in Paralympics 10 metre shooting saying that it’s a huge achievement for India under the efficient stewardship of Subhash Rana. He hopes to win more medals in other events.

It may be recalled that Avani, who sustained spinal cord injuries in a car accident in 2012 commenced her shooting career after being highly impressed n encouraged from first Olympics gold medallist shooter Abhinav Bindra’s autobiography titled “A shot at history”. Her father encouraged her to follow sport, Though she tried her hand in different sports including archery but the inclination towards shooting happened thanks to Bindra’s book her real and true inspiration behind achieving the first ever shooting paralympic Gold.
