The all weather roads project from Rishikesh to the four spritual destinations that had commenced several years ago confronting various challenges from the environmentalists and the honourable supreme Court etc on various accounts including massive cutting of fully grown trees during the NH projects and railway project from Rishikesh to Karnaprayag, have really failed on the National Highway context during the ongoing monsoons with landslides and blockade of roads at unaccounted number of points leading to tremendous inconvenience to the tourists and pilgrims by way of traffic jams for several hours and dissuading them from coming to Uttarakhand hills.
Several tourists and pilgrims have cancelled their journey on the way and several commuters have died after boulders fell on them including several severe injuries to many travellers.
The roads of Badrinath Highway have caved in and washed away at several points by the landslides and also by the ravishing floods thus posing more risk to lives than before.
As a sequel to the ongoing destruction by the landslides and various ecological disaster as happened yesterday night or early morning at Dewal in Rudraprayag district and Chamoli a husband and wife were found buried under the debris who died due to multiple injuries and asphyxiation including massive damage to the bus with passengers and several houses being destroyed in the rubble of landslides.
At Devprayag a big hotel and a large portion of NH along with it has sunk about 2-3 meters below the road exposing the NATIONAL HIGHWAY Management.
All the commuters on the Rishikesh Badrinath Road have been asked to avoid travelling on this road and if they do so they should exercise tremendous precautions.
Moreover, the Alaknanda river water level due excessive rains have also risen up multiply with the road near Dhari Devi and Srinagar submerged, shops swept away and police asking people to avoid commuting on the road till the Alaknanda river’s gushing water level comes down.
Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand chief minister said that in an important meeting related to disaster management, the officers were directed to carry out relief and rescue operations on a war footing in the areas affected by heavy rains. In line with these instructions, the administration took immediate action before the landslide in Nanda Nagar area of Chamoli district and about 15-20 families were shifted to a safe place.
