Assistant professor dies after a boulder fell on his running car on Badrinath highway

Motorists and travellers including passengers travelling in buses and their personal cars are cautioned to avoid travelling on Uttarakhand roads especially during monsoon season or should exercise tremendous precaution.

The reason being that the falling of boulders from mountain terrains or landslides are common happenings in Uttarakhand during monsoon season as heavy torrential rains of several days, not only create deluge, natural calamity but due to loosening of the soils of hills the boulders fitted there naturally get loosened and fall from high altitudes killing people travelling in vehicles smashing them.

There had been umpteen incidents of falling of heavy boulders from mountains over running vehicles resulting in several casualties and injuries of tourists and other passengers.

Just today, on 21 st July on Badrinath highway between Tota Ghati and Saud Pani, a heavy boulder literally smashed a car grievously injuring a gentleman sitting on the back seat , who later on died while being ferried to hospital, with two others on the front seat, being injured, but luckily safe.

Identified as assistant professor in Narendra Nagar Degree college namely Manoj Pokhriyal succumbed to grievous injuries while being taken to Rishikesh hospital by the 108 ambulance.

Sitting on on the back seat was grievously injured Manoj Pokhriyal who was earlier taken out by Army personnel n disaster management volunteers including the police profusely bleeding and unconscious trapped in between the smashed car but finally succumbed to severe head injury before reaching the hospital at AIIMS, Rishikesh.

According to the SHO of Devprayag, Mahipal Singh Rawat, deceased assistant professor Manoj Pokhariyal was going to perform the rituals of his late father.
