Arvind Kejrival’s plea for five meetings with advocates in a week rejected by Delhi court

It’s believed that Delhi CM and national convenor of AAP Arvind Kejrival is confronting setback after a setback. Yesterday his plea in Delhi High Court against his arrest and judicial remand was rejected after being sent to 14 days judicial custody on March 21 and today the additional district and sessions court turned down his plea for increasing the legal meetings with his advocate from two to five in a week.

Apart from this, his colleagues, the Punjab chief minister Bhagwat Mann and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh who were to meet him on Wednesday at 1 PM has been cancelled.

According to the latest reports the Special Judge of Rouse Avenue Court Kaveri Baweja has dismissed the application of the jailed Delhi CM Arvind Kejrival keeping it reserved. Arvind Kejrival has pleaded for given him permission for five meetings in a week instead of two meetings.

Appearing for Arvind Kejrival his counsel Vivek Jain argued that there are 35 to 40 cases registered against his client and the time of half an hour twice a week is not enough for him to understand the cases and give instructions.

Mentioning the case of the now released AAP MP Sanjay Singh that he was granted permission to meet his counsels thrice a week, Kejrival’s advocate Vivek Jain said that if he was granted the facility for three days in a week why can’t his client get it.

The Enforcement Directorate strongly objected saying that since Arvind Kejrival is running his government from jail it doesn’t mean that he is entitled for privileges getting exceptional treatment.

Strongly opposing Kejrival’s plea for five meetings a week ED counsel said that they have recorded proofs under PMLA that he is passing orders through his lawyers this misusing his legal meetings.

The ED’s special public prosecutor Zohab Hussain said the plea of Kejrival can’t be entertained as giving five meetings in a week is nowhere mentioned in the Jail Manual, further saying that according to the JC the under trial’s exposure is limited to the external world and as per provisions of the law.

Kindly recall that Delhi CM Arvind Kejrival was arrested on March 21 and sent to judicial custody for fourteen days on April 1 on the charges of Rs 100 crores having been allegedly paid as bribe by the South Lobby to get undue favours from the Delhi government ‘s new excise (liquor) policy 2021-22. The former Delhi Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia is still in Tihar prison under the same charges in the liquor scam and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh released few days ago by the apex court in bail.
