Another bridge demolished at Kotdwar, the second in a row during the ongoing massive rains. Speaker Khanduri annoyed with the sorry state of affairs !
The chapter of destruction due to heavy rains and subsequent over flooding of rivers is continuing in various parts of Uttarakhand with houses, school buildings, bridges in towns and cities including overflowed rivulets is continuing with loss to human lives and colossal loss of properties worth crores of rupees. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are the worst sufferers during massive rains in monsoon season with highways getting blocked, cars being smashed by boulders falling on them from mountain tops, houses damaged due to heavy landslides and flash floods and accidents taking place due to slippery roads and roads with unaccounted number of pot holes. In addition there had been several tragic incidents of buses, cars and two wheelers having been drowned and swept away in over flooded rivers and even rivulets claiming several lives. In Kotdwara the worst has happened once again. Another bridge after falling of Maalan bridge in Kotdwara few days ago, has been destroyed n demolished at Gaadighat due to over flooding and gushing water tides. This main bridge has connected the residents of JHULA BASTI AND KOTDWARA MAIN BAZAAR. In view of the massive rains and over flooding of drains and rivulets in Kotdwar there is massive destruction and water entering houses with the lives of residents in jeopardy in various localities of Kotdwara. There have been large quantity of muck and silt all around and several vehicles have been submerged in this muck. After the back to back demolition of two bridges in Kotdwar during the ongoing Monsoon, the speaker of Uttarakhand assembly who is the lawmaker from Kotdwar Ritu Khanduri has badly scolded the secretary of disaster management of Uttarakhand namely Ranjit Sinha. The destruction of two bridges in a row raise several question marks on the credibility of Uttarakhand government . The Uttarakhand speaker in a tweet wrote that in view of the ongoing massive rains since the last several days all the rivers and drains including rivulets are in a gushing water mode leading to landslides. Please take precautionary measures while going near the rivers and drains. I am personally inspecting the affected areas of Kotdwar and had issued standing instructions to concerned officers for the relief, rehabilitation, safety and security of the people of Kotdwar in view of the prevailing awful situation tweeted Ritu Khanduri.
