ANAND VIHAR AIR QUALITY INDEX CROSSED ALL LIMIT, REACHED 865 POINTS ON THURSDAY 12 AM.Delhi becomes a Gas Chamber
The National Capital Territory of Delhi has literally become a gas chamber these days. The pollution of worst nature has engulfed Delhi and the National Capital Region with smog dominating since morning and the Air Quality Index touching the maximum crossing 805 points at Anand Vihar at 12 AM termed as most Hazardous with lives of the people at major risk. It is believed that in view of this worst quality of air in Delhi, a person out is like smoking 15 cigarettes. The worst pollution in Delhi and NCR has resulted in people suffering from Asthma, respiratory ailments, heart diseases and other ailments facing tremendous problems with their condition deteriorating further. While the windscreens of the cars are fully covered with fog and smog, the commuters are suffering from eye ailments and tears flowing down their irritating eyes due to excessively polluting air. According to the Commission of Air Quality Management ( CAQM) on Thursday the AQI was 865 points at Anand Vihar termed as most Hazardous.
During the last 24 hours the Air Quality Index in various parts of Delhi has crossed 400 points in almost all areas of Delhi termed as Worst and Hazardous rather a very poor category.
Delhi saw a hazy day on Thursday as the 24-hour average AQI was recorded at 392, which falls in the “very poor” category, and the maximum temperature settled at 30.2 degree Celsius as per PTI.
At least 18 out of 37 monitoring stations recorded AQI in the “severe” category. The areas where AQI breached the 400-mark are – Anand Vihar (450), Bawana (452), Burari Crossing (408), Dwarka Sector 8 (445), Jahangirpuri (433), Mundka (460), NSIT Dwarka (406), Najafgarh (414), Narela (433), Nehru Nagar (400), New Moti Bagh (423), Okhla Phase 2 (415), Patparganj (412), Punjabi Bagh (445), R K Puram (417), Rohini (454), Shadipur (407) and Wazirpur (435).
While stubble burning is one of the prime reasons for the worst pollution in Delhi and NCR, the widespread construction activities in Delhi is another major factor behind the increasing pollution.
Meanwhile in Delhi GRAP -3 HAS BEEN IMPOSED. According to Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining areas a subcommittee has been constituted a subcommittee for invoking action under GRAP ( Graded Response Action Plan) strictly banning construction and demolition activities in Delhi and NCR several other actions as given below in the ORDer. Orders have also been passed for intensifying the frequency of mechanized / vaccum based sweeping of roads, washing of roads daily with dust suppressant s before peak traffic hours etc.
