An Akhand Bharat after all ?

AMITABH SRIVASTAVA, Sr. Journalist

Is an Akhand Bharat
comprising nations around india going to be a reality in the very best future?
This has been a dream of the Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh ever since India was partitioned and other countries like Burma( now Myanmar) and Srilanka became independent countries.
In public the senior RSS leaders like Ram Madhav have been more discreet but their fringe elements are permitted to raise these slogans in their conversation.
But some new political developments in our not so friendly neighbourhood are pointing to a different direction.
The first in this was the election of the new
Sri Lanka Prime Minister Harini in 2024 who did her graduation from Hindu College.
The Delhi University is all set to accord her a huge reception next month to be jointly hosted by the Hindu College.
And now very recently the disturbances in Nepal have put up the name of a senior Jurist Sushila as a possible Prime Minister provided the General Z accepts her.
Sushila is known to have graduated from the Benares Hindu University.
It is another matter that the term Hindu in the names of both institutions does not signify a communal tinge.
On the other hand both the Hindu College and BHU have been named by their founders to signify their revolt against the British.
Hindu College actually became a sanctuary for freedom fighters and hosted leaders including Mahatma Gandhi and Chandrashekhar Azad at its premises during the British rule.
But you can’t predict the mindset of Amit Shah and the RSS.
The RSS Sanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat actually got a huge boost when the Prime Minister himself wrote a Centre Page article praising him.
Caught on the wrong foot by the INDIA campaign against ‘vote chori’ these elements could encash the developments in the neighbourhood to prove that the Akhand Bharat was actually a reality.
