AISF Delhi State Council & AIDSO Delhi State Committee strongly condemn the Arbitrary Cancellation of the Nomination of Comrade Mallik Zaffar for the Vice President Post in the DUSU Election – 2025

The All India Students’ Federation (AISF) Delhi State Council and the All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) Delhi State Committee strongly condemned the corrupt and unconstitutional act of the Delhi University Election Commission in cancelling the candidature of Mallik Zaffar, the DUSU Vice-presidential candidate of AIDSO-AISF UNITED PANEL and breaching lyndoh guidelines
Mallik Zaffar, a third-year law student at Delhi University, hails from Jammu and Kashmir and represents the voices of the most marginalised and oppressed communities of our country. He has consistently stood with students in their struggles and raised issues of welfare, justice, and equality on campus. His disqualification is not merely an attack on an individual but a deliberate assault on campus democracy, and on the voices of minorities, Dalits, and the poor across universities in this country said the statement by AISF and AIDSO.
The statement added that last year, AISF’s candidate Anjana, a third-year Bachelor’s Programme student, contested for the post of Joint Secretary without any objection to her nomination.
This year, however, the Election Commission has arbitrarily cancelled the nomination of Mallik Zaffar for Vice President, citing that a final-year student cannot contest for the posts of Vice President or Joint Secretary. This is blatant bias and a direct violation of democratic rights said the AISF and AIDSO press statement.
It is important to recall that the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations, which form the basis of student union elections, clearly state that any student enrolled in a full-time program is eligible to contest.
The cancellation of Mallik Zaffar’s candidature therefore is illegal, unconstitutional, and rooted in the corrupt nexus between the DU administration, the Election Commission, and the ruling ABVP- NSUI backed forces said the statement.
The statement said : When comrades from the AISF Delhi State Council and AIDSO Delhi State Committee went to the Election Commission office to inquire about this cancellation, they were subjected to misbehaviour and physical attacks by security personnel. Those mishandled included Ameeliya Ann Varghese, AISF candidate for DUSU Joint Secretary,Mohit AISF Secretary candidates,Inzamamul Hassan, Delhi State Secretary of AISF, and Muhsina Muhammed, Delhi State Council member of AISF, Adithyan M A AISF DU student,This shameful incident not only demonstrates the arrogance of the Election Commission but also its complete subservience to fascist political forces said the AISF and AIDSO statement.
At the same time, organisations like ABVP and NSUI, which rely on money and muscle power, have freely filed nominations for all four posts. Their goons even went so far as to tear the nomination papers of candidates from AISF, AIDSO, and other democratic student organisations, preventing the AISF and AIDSO candidates from filing nominations for all positions. Backed by the DU Election Commission and administration, these lumpens enjoy impunity while the democratic voices of students are silenced charged the AISF and AIDSO student leaders.
This act fits into a larger pattern where the fascist establishment repeatedly undermines the legitimacy of democratic institutions. The attack on students’ democratic rights is part of the same broader attack on the Constitution, fundamental rights, and the democratic structure of our country. It is a deliberate attempt to silence voices that resist money power, muscle power, and communal politics in universities.
Mallik Zaffar was not merely a candidate—he is the voice of the marginalised, the voice of students who have lost hope in this corrupted election process, and the voice of those who voted NOTA out of sheer despair. His candidature was a step toward restoring faith in democracy on campus. Its cancellation only exposes the Election Commission’s bias and corruption said the statement .
Meanwhile the AISF Delhi State Council
AIDSO Delhi State Committee leaders and candidates in view of the ongoing unfair practices in the DUSU election process, addressed a press conference today at Press Club of India, wherein AISF-AIDSO united panel called upon all democratic forces, all student organisations, and the larger student community to stand united against this unjust and non democratic action. The struggle for campus democracy is a struggle for the future of democracy itself.
