After being defeated by Rajesh Khanna in 1992, two term Lok Sabha and two term RS MP n former union minister 76 year old Shatrughan Sinha wins by more than 2 Lakh votes from Asansol as TMC candidate
After being defeated by the first and original super of Bollywood Rajesh Khanna in 1992 by a margin of 27000 votes from elite New Delhi parliamentary constituency, his debut in election politics 76 year old Bollywood’s villain Shatrughan Sinha represented Patna constituency to Lok Sabha twice, first in 2009 and then in 2014. Earlier from 1996 to 2008 he represented Rajya Sabha and was minister for health and family welfare and shipping as well during 2003 and 2004 during the tenure of prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Shatrughan Sinha has been quite vocal and generated hatred for the saffron party spitting venom against prime minister politically criticizing his policies publicly finally leaving BJP in 2019 to join Congress party contesting from Patna Sahib against BJP heavyweight then union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad losing at the hustings. After three years of association from Congress he joined All India Trinamul Congress in 2022 after being offered the Asansol Lok Sabha seat from West Bengal winning it by more than two lakh votes. Extremely jubilant over his overwhelming victory at the age of 76 being in political oblivion for several years, from Asansol West Bengal, the actor turned politician Shatrughan Sinha also famous by his nickname Shotgun Sinha showered his affection towards the TMC leader n WB CM Mamata Bannerjee saying : I am indebted to the great leader, the great woman, the great human being – Mamata Bannerjee and the wonderful people of Asansol, Bengal for their massive expression of support. I am overwhelmed and also humbled by their love an affection showered on me by the lovely people Asansol, Bengal, feeling both delighted and blessed. He termed his victory as yet another victory with yet another record margin, in a tweet. It may be recalled that former union minister and bete noire of PM. Narendra Modi, Shatrughan Sinha defeated Agnimitra of BJP with more than two lakh votes even more than what his predecessor Babul Supriyo’s won by in 2019. In 2019 Bollywood singer turned MP and then union minister Babul Supriyo had won by over 1,97000 votes. The chief minister of West Bengal Mamata Benarjee in her tweet congratulated the people of Asansol and Balleygunj for the overwhelming victory of All India TMC candidates. The former MP from Asansol and former union minister who had joined TMC resigning from BJP had also won from Balleygunj defeating the BJP candidate by more than 20000 votes. Meanwhile, in the byelection held in Bochahan Bihar the RJD candidate win by 36655 votes. From Khairagarh Chattisgarh assembly seat the Congress candidate Yashoda Verma defeated Komal Singh of BJP with more than 20000 votes. From Kolhapur, Maharashtra seat too the Congress candidate Jadhav Jai Shree Chandra kant won defeating his nearest rival.
