A woman brutally killed by maneater at Dwarikhal block, Pauri Garhwal

A painful news has come from Kandakhal Jawad village under Dwari Khal block under Yamkeshwar assembly constituency of Pauri district. On Sunday evening around 4.30 pm, a leopard ambushed and attacked 34-year-old Anita Devi who was grazing goats in the forest.

The woman died on the spot in the attack. There is an atmosphere of panic in the entire village after the incident.

The villagers allege that despite three hours having passed since the incident, no employee of the forest department or administration has reached the spot.

This has caused deep resentment among the people and questions are being raised on the working style of the administration.

The villagers have demanded from the administration that patrolling in the area be increased and the man-eating leopard be caught.

Villagers say that leopard was seen in the area for last several days and the Forest Department was informed about the same and a demand was made to the Forest Department to set up a cage to catch the leopard but the Forest Department refused to set up the cage without any incident involving leopard.

If the forest department had caught the leopard in time, perhaps Anita Devi would have been alive today. Anita Devi lost her life due to the negligence of the forest department. Amidst the questions being raised on the negligence of the forest department and the administration, now it has to be seen how long the responsible officers of the forest department will stay awake.

How long will this continue ? How long will the predators/ maneaters brutal kill our women folk , children and men of Uttarakhand ? Will the concerned departments and those sitting at the helm of affairs in the Himalayan state do something concrete and credible to ensure the safety and security of the human beings of Uttarakhand ? Will the ruling political dispensation make public the statistics of the human folks brutally killed by the maneaters in Uttarakhand since the last twenty five years and if not that than at least the fatalities during the last seven years since the saffron party government came to power and repeated consecutively. Not an alternate day is left when we don’t hear the tragic news of our villagers losing their invaluable lives at the hands of these dangerous predators. When will this stop is the moot question being asked by those who are on the brink of losing their lives where these predators are on prowl of human flesh and the wild life department doing nothing to counter them.
