A person killed by maneater at Barakot, Lohaghat district , Kumaon, Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand seems to have become synonym of tragedies. Not a day is passed when we don’t witness tragic deaths by maneaters.
The women, men and children have become vulnerable and not a week is passed when there are not three deaths atleast.
In Garhwal Uttarakhand, especially in Pauri Garhwal district renowned professional hunter who has so far killed over 47 maneaters and two others have been hired and probably one leopard has been killed but it remains to be seen if it’s really the maneater or not.
Meanwhile, in Kumaon division of Uttarakhand at Barakot a person namely Dev Singh Adhikari fell prey to a maneater when he was attacked this morning at 7.00 AM. He unfortunately died in the spot.
This is a second tragedy occuring in the same Lohaghat district in a month. However, compared to Garhwal the maneater attacks are lesser in Kumaon division.
Though the Lohaghat, Almora and Nanital and Pithoragarh has witnessed maneater attacks but compared to the Garhwal’s Pauri, Rudraprayag and Tehri Garhwal districts they are very little.
This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the village. Villagers have appealed to the Forest Department to declare the tiger a man-eater and kill it.
The Wildlife Protection Act is for animals, only humans can die.
Humans have no protection.
