Uttarakhand Raksha Morcha to stage Dharna outside Election Commission office for delaying their party symbol
The Uttarakhand Raksha Morcha, a regional party of Uttarakhand is staging a Dharna outside the headquater of Election Commission of India, New Delhi to protest against the delay in allocation of symbol to them informing that the URM will be allotted the symbol after 14 th January.
The Uttarakhand Rakha Morcha president Dr. Vinod Kumar Bahuguna while protesting against this decision of ECI asked why this step motherly treatment with their regional party when other political parties have been allotted the symbols before 14 th January.
In a letter written to the chief election commissioner Sushil Chandra via email the president of Uttarakhand Raksha Morcha party Dr. V. K Bahuguna said that it is totally unacceptable for the election Commission to delay the allotment of symbol after 14 th January when other political parties of Uttarakhand were alloted symbols in the month of November, 2021.
He said – it is surprising that Uttarakhand Raksha Morcha is being micro managed with the sole aim of delaying the symbol allocation to them, which is highly undemocratic and high handedness says the letter.
The letter addressed to Chief ECI Sushil Chandra by URM president Dr. V. K. Bahuguna says : With deep anguish, I am writing this letter to seek your immediate intervention in allocation of the symbol to Uttarakhand Raksha Morcha for the ensuing Assembly elections in Uttarakhand.
The new office bearers were elected with due procedure as per the Constitution of the party on 2 nd October, 2021 and the list was intimated to ECI on 30 th October, 2021said the letter.
However, the undersecretary of ECI Manish Kumar wrote a letter on 16 th November, which was replied by the mail as well as by speed post on 22 nd November, 21 giving details of information asked for by him ( Mr. Manish Kumar).
We have furnished all the relevant documents and completed the necessary formalities to the ECI ( the letter is, self explanatory) wrote the president of URM Dr. Bahuguna.
However, the undersecretary Manish Kumar on 22 nd December informed that the symbol will be allocated after 14 th January despite the fact that all other political parties of Uttarakhand had been allocated symbols in the end of the month in November mentioned Dr. Bahuguna in his letter.
Dr. V. K. Bahuguna urged the Sushil Chandra Chief Election Commisioner of India to allocate them the election symbol at the earliest in order to allow them discharge its legitimate rights as per the Constitution of India concluded the letter.
They intimated the Election Commission to sit on Dharna in protest outside the ECI office in New Delhi on 28 th December to register their protest for this deliberate delay in alloting the symbol via email.
Kindly recall that the elections in Uttarakhand seem to be due in February March and all political parties are in a hurry to allocate party tickets to their candidates so thag they get sufficient time to campaign in their respective constituencies. Delay in allocation of election symbol keeps the political fate of candidates likely to contest in this election in suspense/ balance till they are not allotted tickets say political analysts especially from regional parties who require lot of time to compete with giant national parties like Congress n BJP.
