Thirteen civilians and an Army soldier Gautam Lal of Tehri Garhwal killed in Mon district of Nagaland on Saturday

There have been an unfortunate incident of killings of thirteen civilians of mistaken identity in Mon district of Nagaland on Saturday in which an Indian Army soldier ( paratrooper) namely Gautam Lal of 21 Battalion of Parashoot regiment also succumbed to the retaliation by the highly exasperated locals of Mon district who also torched several Army vehicles and threw stones at the security personel in extreme protest in the camp situated 300 kilometres away from state capital Kohima.

In addition to the earlier thirteen killings by mistake the security forces had to fire on the highly angered protesting civilians in self defence killing one more civilian and injuring several others. The security forces personal young Gautam Lal who succumbed to the retaliation of the angered locals of Mon district of Nagaland after the killings of thirteen civilians by mistake, taken as the NSCN extremists, was primarily from Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand’s Nauli village.

After the shocking incident while Union home minister Amit Shah had through a tweet expressed his shock and condolences said that a high level State Investigative Team constituted by the government of Nagaland will probe this tragedy ensuring justice to the bereaved families who lost their lives in this shocking incident with Nagaland CM Neipheu Rio while condemning it ordered an immediate probe by the State SIT to give justice to the aggrieved families.

The Indian Army too deeply regretted this tragedy on the loss of lives assuring of the higest level probe with appropriate action as per the law of the land adding that they had a credible information from the military intelligence about the suspicious movement of the NSCN insurgents to carry out a specific operation.

The district administration and Army has imposed curfew in the disturbed Mon district and all internet services have been suspended after the riotous situation that has erupted after these killings. The civillian allegedly falsely taken as insurgents were were returning home from Oting coal fields in a truck.

The soldiers fired at the truck after recieving the information of the extremists moving around clandestinely when the truck didn’t stopped.

The local police are conducting the flag march and the chief minister has urged the people to maintain calm and peace. He returned to Kohima, the state capital from Delhi after meeting the Union hone minister acquainting him of the critical situation in the state, as a consequence of these killings.

Several Army personel were also injured n a soldier Gautam lal killed in retaliation by the locals of Mon district of Nagaland said the news reports. The situation in the state capital Kohima and Nagaland is tense.
