New Delhi, Sept 7 – Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday met and consoled the family members of the victims of the Satya Niketan building collapse at the JPN Apex Trauma Centre, AIIMS.
A 50-year-old five-storey building housing a boys PG – ‘Hostel Daze’ – near DU South Campus, opposite Sri Venkateswara College, collapsed around 1:30 PM on Sunday during basement repair work.
7 people have died and 12 have been rescued so far. Of the 11 brought to AIIMS Trauma, 5 were brought dead, 1 succumbed later, 3 are admitted and 1 underwent limb surgery. NDRF, Delhi Fire Service, DDMA, Police are carrying out rescue operations.
CM Gupta ordered a magisterial inquiry and FIR against owner Hariram Gupta/Bansal. A lookout notice was issued and the owner and his wife have been nabbed from Bhiwadi, Rajasthan and sent to 14-day judicial custody along with his wife. FIR registered under BNS Sections 105, 290, 125 (a).
The adjacent building has been vacated and MCD has ordered sealing of all illegal buildings above 4 floors.
