Delhi Law & Order Under Strain: From Daylight Jewellery Heists To Public Murder of Muskan in Tilak Nagar

Delhi’s law and order situation is once again under sharp scrutiny as a spate of violent crimes in the last 48 hours — ranging from broad daylight robberies to a public murder of a young girl — has triggered panic across residential colonies.
Police sources admit that despite increased deployment, decentralized beat patrolling and ground-level vigilance appear to be ineffective in several districts, particularly Outer, Northwest and West Delhi.
In Mangolpuri, incidents of assault with injuries by miscreants have been reported in the past few days, with residents complaining that PCR response and beat constable visibility is minimal after 8 PM.
Ashok Vihar: On Tuesday, eight robbers allegedly entered a house at knife-point and looted jewellery and cash worth around Rs 75 lakhs. Residents say the gang came on bikes and fled within minutes, with no immediate police interception.
Karol Bagh: In a similar modus operandi, two armed men robbed jewellery worth around Rs 2 crores from a house / on the road at knife-point. The incident, captured partially on CCTV, shows how brazen criminals have become, operating even in high-footfall commercial areas.
Both cases substantiate the growing fear that criminals no longer fear being caught during daytime.
3. The most shocking — Muskan Murder, Tilak Nagar — 26 August:
Delhi’s Tilak Nagar has been shaken by the brutal public murder of a young girl identified as Muskan.
According to Delhi Police:
At around 7:24 PM on 26 August 2026, Police Station Tilak Nagar received a PCR call regarding a girl being stabbed near Tilak Nagar market/residential area.
A police team rushed to the spot, but by then the injured girl had been shifted by public to *Amar Leela Hospital, Janakpuri. Doctors declared her Brought Dead due to excessive bleeding from stab injuries.
Considering the gravity of the situation the Crime Team and Forensic Team (FSL) were called. The scene was photographed, forensic inspection done, and crucial evidences — including blood samples, weapon trail and CCTV footages from nearby shops were collected.
On the basis of the statement of the deceased’s brother, a case of Murder under BNS Section 103 has been registered at Tilak Nagar Police Station.
During preliminary enquiry, the brother disclosed that his sister knew a youth residing in the nearby locality and there was some prior acquaintance / dispute. Police are investigating the angle of personal enmity, stalking and rejection. The accused is absconding and teams have been formed to nab him.
The fact that the murder happened in a crowded public place in the evening, with people around, has raised serious questions on police presence.
Rising Trend
Data from the past months shows:
– Street crimes, snatching at knife-point in West and Outer Delhi up.
– Robberies involving 2-8 member gangs using bikes without number plates.
– Youth involved in stabbing over petty disputes in Mangolpuri, Sultanpuri, Jahangirpuri.
– Delayed PCR response due to shortage of beat staff.
Residents in Ashok Vihar, Tilak Nagar, Karol Bagh and Mangolpuri now say women and senior citizens feel unsafe even stepping out before 8 PM.
What Needs Immediate Action
1. Re-strengthening Beat Policing: Foot patrolling, not just motorcycle patrolling.
2. Visible Policing: Re-activation of police booths that remain locked.
3. CCTV Integration: Real-time monitoring of private and public CCTV in police control room.
4. Fast-track investigation in Muskan case to restore public confidence.
The brutal murder of Muskan is not an isolated incident but a symptom of deteriorating deterrence. The situation warrants immediate personal intervention of the Delhi Police Commissioner and DCPs of concerned districts.
Until ground-level vigilance is restored, Delhiites say, the fear will only grow — that crime in Delhi is no longer happening in dark alleys at midnight, but in broad daylight, on main roads, in front of everyone.
